2014 VRS petrol turbo change.

Featured Replies

Hello, my car is in need of a new turbo, can it be a diy job or is it nigh on impossible to do on the driveway at home?
I am pretty competent, but looking at it the accessibility looks restricted to say the least.

Petrol or diesel?

I had my petrol turbo replaced by a independent vag specialist a few years ago. I'm also pretty handy, but didn't have time to do it myself. It seems pretty OK to do, the most important bit is to fill the new turbo with oil before buttoning up.

After phoning around a few independent vw/Audi repairers and being quoted £800 + vat and £960 + vat for just fitting as I had everything to do the job a friend of a friend that has a decent size garage is doing it for £400. I am happy with that, it’s there now so hopefully will have it back in a few days.

Just to close out the post, had my new turbo fitted, the car runs really nice, well pleased with it. They noticed the sump is leaking very slightly at the joint between the sump and bottom of the engine. So that’s the next job.
