2019 2.0tdi 150 dsg fumes

Featured Replies

Hi,

picked up a second hand superb from non-ŠKODA dealer last weekend.

its 2.0tdi 150 with 7spd dsg. 85k miles. Everything very tidy, drives spot on.

They changed the belt and water pump as promised, turns out they didn’t do the oil/filters service they’d agreed to do so they’ve said to take it back in…. They did do a fresh mot for what it’s worth. They’ve warrantied it for 12 months, with lots of caveats I’m sure - probably not worth the paper it’s written on but a bonus nonetheless

I have noticed a bit of a smell of diesel/fumes as I get out of the car and when I have a sniff around the engine bay it is there too but can’t for the life of me work out where it’s coming from. Seems strongest at the front of the engine, but don’t know if it’s the fan causing a weird airflow.

When the engine is warm ive noticed that the oil gives off fumes, but looking around I think that is normal for this engine, may be wrong though.

Before I take it back and ask them to look into it, does anyone have any pointers? I’m banking on them dismissing it and telling me they can’t smell it….

thanks!

The DPF could just need a good regen, plenty on here about that.

Sounds like it is constantly trying to regen and as a consequence has diluted the engine oil with diesel, as it is a new purchase you should get it to someone with VCDS or similar ASAP to verify the soot and oil ash loading of the DPF, that may reveal why the vehicle was PX'd.

Act while you still have the right to reject the vehicle.

Just got obd11 and checked some values:

oil ash mass: 34.7196678g

Soot mass measured: 0.47g

soot mass calculated: 10.06g

Time since last regeneration : 2.896h

Km since last regeneration: 167.9km

should I be looking at anything else?

do these look ok?

Just finished a 50 odd mile drive, the car has not attempted a regen, not sure it would as soot level seems low.

still a feint smell of fumes. Not sure how to describe it, it’s not necessarily exhaust fumes but fumes from neat diesel. I can’t see a leak or anything that looks like it’s been contaminated though

Did you take off the engine cover & check around the injectors?
