Looking at a 2018 Octavia 1.0 SE Technology

Hi All,

I’m going to look at a 2018 Octavia 1.0 SE Technology DSG for sale at a Carshop branch at the weekend. It’s currently on 60,000 miles and they have told me the previous owner was Leaseplan. This isn’t a huge surprise as I got the impression this model was aimed at fleet buyers. They went on to say that the service history is only partial. They don’t have a record of service on 2021, but two services were carried out in 2022, by Halfords (given the reputation of my local Halfords I’m not sure what to think of that).

Is there anything in particular I need to be looking out for on the car, or anything specific with the 1.0 engine and DSG gearbox?

Any thoughts and advice would be much appreciated…

All you can do with the DSG is drive and see if it feels OK.

What is the full service history of, is it to manufacturers recommendations, guidelines or schedule.

@ 80,000 miles it should have had the 2nd replacement of spark plugs.

The brake fluid would have been changed at 3 years and due again at another 2.

The Air Filter might not even have been looked at.

That is the thing with Service Histories, you want a record of stuff done, not the stuff not done.

The car with 80k miles was previously owned by British Gas and that does have the full Skoda service history, so I would be more happy that everything that should have been done has been.

The car with partial non-Skoda service history I will need to find out more information, as all she could tell me last night was no recorded services in 2021, and two in 2022 - but she didn't have the details to hand of what work was carried out.

@JamesK  Was it leased by British Gas from Volkswagen, which is a different thing.

Being happy that everything should have been done is fine.  But if 'Fleet Serviced' / Serviced plan that does not mean all was done.

So you want to see that Spark Plugs, Brake Fluid, Air Filter etc were done.  Or just go with they 'Should have been' Could have been' but there is no record that they were done unless invoicesl

Just budget to have stuff done if no record of them.   A FMDSH is nothing special, a Fleet Vehicle might well have had less servicing than some car privately owned.

@toot I’m going to try and see both cars this weekend, and ask to see the service record.
If the 80k car has a full main dealer service history should I be able to get details from my local Skoda dealer as to the work carried out if invoices are not available?

You most certainly can get the service record as they have it on the system.  http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/516152-digital-skoda-service-record

Ask the salesperson to send you the Service & Warranty history before you go see the car.

It might show Oil & Inspection Services & extended scope.  Great if they have the additional work done. shows a AC service or stuff customers get told is due.
