How to find out if towbar is factory fit , insurers seem to hike prices for a aftermarket one aka modification.

Featured Replies

After the huge renewal quote hike from Direct line i've had to switch insurer & found one lower than previous years D/line cover so all good, but the issue of towbar has cropped up on our old Fabia estate. I've declared as no modification as i think this could well be a factory fit but as it's not used i'll remove it if  i can't confirm it is.

My question is is how do i find out if it is factory just to save me a little work.

Welcome.

Pretty sure that Factory Fit Towbars were not an Option on Fabia,s in the UK back in 2006 or into Mk2 Fabia.   (I could be wrong as i often am, but then sometimes not.)

They would be fitted by Dealerships or a contractor.

No worries.

You certainly could get a factory fit towbar on a Mk1 Fabia, the wiring is shown in the circuit diagrams , but whether sold in the UK with "1D1 - with trailer hitch" I have no data on either way. @AnnoyingPentium do you have any info on this in your brochure collection?

See here for lots of mk1 useful pdfs: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/files/file/76-mk1-fabia-workshop-manuals/

@in4apennyhow much are they loading the insurance because the car has a towbar, or is this about you giving a false declaration saying no modification from factory but saying it has a tow bar.

I have never declared a towbar other than if asked and never been asked if it was a factory fit in the last 40 plus years.

Was indeed an option, but think it was dealer fit, as it came with the 'original accessories' booklet - but don't quote me on this as 100% correct. Ta.

If a Dealer fit then that is just the same as Mk2 Fabia Monte Carlo or vRS that you could order with the option springs from Eibach which were fitted at the PDI and were not a modification, it was on the Factory Order just not done at the factory.
