Adaptive Lane Assist? Difference…

Hi. Looking for some help clearing up confusion here. I recently changed my car from a 2017 Kodiaq Edition to a 2023 L&K with travel assist enabled. I do a lot of motorway driving so would like to get this sorted.

on my 2017 the lane assist was usually on and just automatically kept the car perfectly centered in the lane by default and tapped the brakes if you didn’t hold the steering wheel.

on the 2023 lane assist is enabled but it doesn’t keep the car centered in the lane, it only intervenes when you drift over to the edge of the lane.

i want the car to behave like the 2017, and lock into the lane. I’ve been through the manual and searched various places. Still can’t work it out. It seems the feature is now called adaptive lane assist? I can’t find any option in the menus for this. Does something need to be coded? Any clues welcome.

Enable Travel Assist to enable adaptive lane guidance/assist.

Indeed - but it still doesn't keep it bang in the middle of the lane like it did in the pre-facelift version. Or, at least, that's my perception, just as the OP's.

I actually prefer it because it's less... intrusive - but it did take a bit of getting used to.

After much experimentation I have discovered that you have to use the steering wheel button twice to enable acc then enable travel assist. Then you have to pull the acc stalk forward to activate lane lock. It’s all a bit of a faff, my previous Kodiaq just locked into the centre of the lane as a matter of course without me having to do anything. I wonder if this can be changed in coding..

Errr, no you don't.

Pull the ACC stalk forward to engage/set speed. Then press the Travel Assist button on the steering wheel to engage that. Lane assist will be on permanently, unless you turn it off in the menu, the 'adaptive' part will activate with the travel assist.

What is weird, on newer models you cannot swith lane assist completely off.

You sure? I can turn it off in the assists menu... does that not deactivate it completely? Can't say I've ever tried as I don't want to turn it off.

Not 100% sure, I have been driven replacement cars several times, but how much I tried, the lane assist is always back after starting the car. No matter if you switch it off on steering wheel or in menu.

There’s a difference between not being able to turn something off… and it always defaulting to being on when you start the car.

There are too many things nowadays that have a default you can’t change, and you have to set to your personal preferences every time you use the thing (not just talking about cars!).
