Ride and handling - how do you rate them?

Featured Replies

Coming from a mk3 diesel I find the mk4 IV ride to be smoother - bumps arent as noticeable.

I find the handling on country roads quite different though. I enjoyed the mk3 in corners- it always felt predictable and well balance. In comparison in the two days I've been driving the mk4 IV it feels lighter at the front and with more weight at the back, which is something I'm going to have to get used to as I don't feel so confident going into corners.

New tyres, new car.

Have you checked the tyre pressures the car was handed over with and set them to your needs?

The ride on 19" rims can be jittery - this was the reason I downgraded my vRS 2.0TSi to 18" items before delivery - and the dealer didn't even offer a credit!

I've got my DCC set past the midway point to allow the car to track into corners well at the expense of a slightly firmer ride even on these rims.

Having come from an F31 BMW 320d Touring, the vRS does what it's asked to do but with slightly less panache.  Guess that's the difference between BMW xDrive and a pure front drive layout.

Biggest complaint about the rolling refinement is pronounced tyre roar on rough tarmac.

I agree about the tyre roar that is very noticeable on rough surfaces. Mine has 17 inch wheels as it's not a VRS so the ride feels pretty nice.

In case of PHEV that is correct. Battery is in the back and it weights a lot.
I'm still struggling sometimes with front wheels slip when I apply throttle, especially on wet roads.
