What improvements would you make to the infotainment system?

Featured Replies

Hi skoda octavia owners, Firstly I'm very new with my skoda octavia rs. Thank you to for your discussion re the virtual cockpit, I didn't know that I could have the maps and the speedometer and rev meter at the same time, learned something new there,  so much to learn.  Also I agree re the app, it's limited, for my vehicle it says that it's not fully compatible, I'm going to see if my dealer can ammend this, it's not a big deal though.  For me one thing i wish would improve is the voice assistance "Laura". I don't find it useful much. Maybe I don't fully understand it's function but it seems it's only good for limited requests like the radio or navigation if it understands you.  I think it will be great if you could say "hey Laura please go to the climate control and turn up the fan to 4". That way whilst your driving you minimally need to take your eyes off the road fumbling with the system. One more thing I love the ambient lighting of the car,  I have seen that you can increase the colour palate from 10 colours to 30, how does one do that. Thanks in advance for any assistance

Welcome to your new rs.

I use the voice control a lot for climate control; things let “set temperature to 20 degrees “, “my feet are cold”, or “the passenger is too hot”; also can use things like “my seat is cold”. Radio and media playback works well too. I still haven’t got the navigation voice control worked out so I usually get my passenger to set it or do so before driving off.

The additional ambient lighting can be bought through the online shop; easier using a web browser on a PC or phone.

Thank you SteveTheElder

Ok noted thanks for the tip I will use those phrases that you used hopefully they work for me.

Nice to know re the ambient lighting. I can use my phone. So if and when I buy them is it easy to install in the car. I'm not extremely tech savvy though I'm sure I  can manage if instructed right.  I just don't want to void the warranty.

As I understand it, if you log in to the web site to order the additional lighting, and use the same account in the car, the lights should be activated/synchronised by the Škoda systems.

Pre-requisites are that your user in the car and the internet login are the same account, and the car itself is linked (via VIN).

Thanks for the further guidance

I'll give it a go when I am able to.  So the online shop that you are referring to is that the skoda official shop.  Is it this one. https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/en_CZ/

I haven't checked it out yet just searched on the Web.

Not that one. Login to Škoda Connect (not sure if the url for your region) in there you’ll see the same stuff as through the phone App, and a link to a shop.

You can also access it through the My Škoda app.

Hi again thanks for guiding me further.  Do I need to connect my car to get the online services because I had a look and I don't think Skoda Connect is available in Australia, I don't see an .au page and also when I put my vin in the spot to add my vehicle in the Skoda Connect com page it states Your vehicle is not equipped with both "Škoda Connect" and "SmartLink

Even the app that i downloaded says "this vehicle is not compatible with the MySkoda app. The range of services is limited. Still we are happy to offer you some useful features to help your everyday driving experience" I have tried contacting the dealership and am waiting for them.

I’ve done it through the Škoda Connect services; awaiting a dealer response is a good call!

There are a few other Octavia owners from Australia on this forum, hopefully they’ll see this thread and be able offer further comment/assistance.

In the meantime, enjoy your new car…

I was looking for a good music app to use with Android Auto and it turns out one of the best for accessing local music files on your phone is AIMP. And it has a 29 band graphic equaliser so you can adjust the sound far more accurately than with the 3-band equaliser in the Skoda:

I use Musicolet which has something similar

We don't have Skoda Connect in Australia... yet. Reports online suggest that the Enyaq when (finally) released in Australia next year will be the one of the first vehicles to have it. The local Cupra Born owners have had their cars hamstrung by the lack of connected services. It means they have to go to the dealer for major software updates.

With regard to the ambient lighting, you should already have the extended version. At least my 2021 RS does, but they did delete a few options between 2021 and 2023.

Skoda Australia also will not sell FEC/SWAP codes - Feature Enabling Code / SoftWare As a Product - a mechanism to pack units with features and sell activation codes later which is what the online shop does - again something only available via Skoda Connect.

Our MIB3 (Modularer Infotainment Baukasten or Modular Infotainment System - 3rd Generation) units introduced in 2021 has meant the loss of a bunch of features because they moved them to online only. In Australia, radio logos don't work, there is no Gracenote album artwork, no TMC/Traffic Information, No firmware updates via WiFi, and no user profiles/personalisation - to name a few items. It's very frustrating.

IMO, Skoda Australia should have put the Skoda Connect/LTE hardware in vehicles now ready for activation later.
