Blinking Hand Brake Sign and Beeping...What is it?

Featured Replies

Well Joe Cole just scored the first goal for England. Hope England wins.

Anyway Question:

I was driving my car rather enthusiastically today and on a rather sharp on ramp I took punched my car. The tyres were at screeching point and I kept accelerating. The car didn't lose poise or anything but in the middle of the curve the Hand Brake sign on the Instrument Panel started blinking and their was an intermittant beeping sound. I checked the hand brake, it was not deployed. Once out of the curve the beeping stopped and the hand brake LED blinked a couple of times and then it went off.

I went back and pulled the same thing on the car with the same result.

Note: the beeping wasn' t the same as when the hand brake is deployed and one keeps driving.

My car is octy vRS with ABS,Cruise Control and all options.

I dont think it has ESP on it as it is not advertised here in India.

What could it be?

Whats your fluid level like?

Fluid Level? If you mean Oil...it's alright. I'll check it again tomorrow (it's past midnight here)

But the car is new. Only done 15k Kms. Had the first service done about 3months back

No I mean brake fluid.

Again brake fluid is fine. Had no problems with braking watsoever. This happens on only this particular curve. Happened once before about a month back. It's a tight left hand curve and climbing up steeply.

Brake fluid surge in the reservoir causing the low fluid warning to be activated.

This was my thinking aswell.

So all is well? Or should i check the fluid level?

Your bias valve?

I remember in the clios if you lowered the rear end on and put too much weight in it would apply the hand brake.. something to do with the brake bias valve.

As you shoot up the hill or hit the bottom on the other side your car weighs a hell of alot more than normal.. maybe it was a similar thing?

I am just stabbing in the dark here so correct me if i am talking utter nonsense!

Sam, yeah, check the brake fliud level; aside from Lummox being a Skoda mechanic, I've had the same symptoms in other (hire) cars, eventually with a text message on a digital dash saying "check brake fluid level", which turned out to be below the minimum mark on the reservoir.

I had the same problem after a dealer changed the clutch I think... they must have bled it, as when I went around a corner I got the hand break light up on the dash and the ping ping ping warning.

Just top up the fluid (and check it a few days later to ensure it is not leaking away!)

thanks folks. I'll check that and see if it happens again.
