standard dv noise

Featured Replies

just noticed that when it is quiet about i can actually hear my dv when i lift off.

is this normal to be able to hear the stock one or does it mean that i have a leak somewhere.

just been driving the car and something just doesnt seem right,i can no longer feel the turbo kicking in hard like i could when i first picked it up and i can clearly hear both the turbo and dv whilst driving whereas i could only hear the turbo before with the window down and until last night had never heard the dv.

i am suspecting that either the dv diaphram has split or the intercooler pipe is loose or split, does this sound possible.have just rung the main dealers and they want me to pop it back in for them to have a quick look at so should know more later.

according to the mechanic it is definately the dv,he took it for a test drive and then checked it out in the workshop and said that it is really weak and not really doing anything at all so he has ordered in a new one and thinks that will sort it:thumbup:.

he also said that these dv's should give a little chatter noise rather than the normal tschh when they are working properly:confused:.

hopefully this will make it go better again as it was certainly feeling a bit flat and there is a noticable drop in performance.

Don't know if that's correct....chatter would imply that boost is being vented via the waste gate...not good for your turbo.

Then again I'm not a tech...

M8 unless its under warranty get him to order you a Audi S3 one, they are a little bit stronger:rolleyes:

I`ve put my OE one back on as my Forge 007 keeps playing up despite 2 service kit rebuilds:mad:

How could boost be vented via your wastegate? Your wastegate lets out excess exhaust pressure not boost pressure!!

What does the DV vent? Boost when you lift off the throttle right?

If you are getting boost being vented through the waste gate, and it generally causes the wastegate to flutter, then something is wrong.

An example of how boost can be vented through the wastegate is if you have a DV...an adjustable one.....which is adjusted such that it doesn't allow the valve to open on lift off...the boost must find a route to escape which it does via the wastegate.

I think this is right......perhaps the Master Tech can give his opinion?

this is all baffling so luckily it is under warranty so i can just let them get on with it:D

i bought my vrs after reading dozens and dozens of positive reviews on them and cant remember ever reading a bad review, however people on here seem to have an awful lot of problems with things like dv's,turbo pipework, coil packs, maf's etc etc,i wish i had found this site earlier:eek:and beginning to wish that i had payed for the extended warranty:rolleyes:

are they really as reliable as i first thought and am i worrying over nothing:Ojust a bit worried because mine is already playing up after only 3 days:eek:

The problems you have mentioned are known ones and are covered by warranty...if you still have one.

I have only had one coil pack fail and that was only after I had to leave it outside of the garage and in cold weather...and then it only failed in it's 3rd year.

The original DV were prone to split the diaphragm but the new ones are apparently much better. I changed to a piston type DV which is much more reliable but not as responsive.

I have an IHI turbo putting out 340bhp and am still running the original clutch with no slip.

340bhp

cant be all bad then if it will take that kind of abuse:Dbet the front tyres dont last long though.

The wastegate is on the exhaust side of the turbo charger. The compressor and the turbo are in no way connected other than the main shaft so how would boost from the compressor transfer over to the turbo to watsegate.

Maybe we are talking about different things.. but as an engine development engineer who works with turbos every day i can assure you the waste gate and dv are in no way connected!
