Skoda Superb 2012 2.0 tdi Battery Drain

Featured Replies

Annoying battery drain killing car after just a few days unused

New battery so not the battery

One thing I am getting when car is turned off is a relay type noise (almost fizing noise) from under the bonnet

As you look under the bonnet at the back right hand side it appears to be from under the plastic trims very close to the screen

No idea what electrics are under there ?

I have original satnav / stereo , no dash cams etc but any clues to look for would be helpful

Thanks

Remove the trims and all will be revealed including hopefully the cycling relay, a good thwack often sets them straight like a defibrillator.

If you mean the right side as you look at it, rather than the car's right side, I think the air quality sensor may be under there, and they have a bad rep.

Failing in a way that might cause a battery drain. Some reports of scorched connectors if I remember rightly. Possibly water ingress related?

A cycling relay is one where the contacts oscillate on and off making a chattering or buzzing noise, sounds similar to an AC door release on an intercom system when someone "buzzes" you in.

Thanks everyone , I will get to the bottom of this and report back

Also, use a multimeter and measure power drain. Easiest is to get someone to read the multimeter while you unplug fuse by fuse from panel to check. There should not be any more powerdrain than maybe 20-30mA.
