Door loom fix wiring

Featured Replies

hi all,

My 2010 Superb estate is due for an MOT in two weeks, and unfortunately the (brown) airbag crash sensor wire in the driver door loom is damaged, giving me an error on the dash board.    The damage is in a rather awkward location (10cm away from connector) ,  and I am struggle to access it, let alone strip and fix it.  Calling on the experts here for some advice.

Can I pull the collection of cables out of the door by a few cm?   Or is there an option to remove the rubber casing easily? Or any other trick?
Thanks,

Have done this on a VAG Golf MK5. Same prodecure, and the easiest way to get good access, is to disassemble the inner door panels. First the outer one and then the inner one. Then you will have decent access to fault finding through the door cables. Unfortunately, there is no other way that I could find giving med more space to fault find the cables through the door. You will proably need a rivet gun to asseble the inne metallic door plate again. Need to drill out the rivets for disassembly.

Thanks, that sounds complicated, especially the inner panel bit. Are these special rivets I should use, or will the ones from Screwfix do the job?

Its not that complicated sir. Buy a rivet set with different sizes and a rivet gun. Also, it might be so that you don't need to diassemble the inner metallic door plate also, just the outer to access the wire loom. In that case, no need for a rivet gun. Take a look at youtube to see if someone else has made a video how-to. I worked on a VW Golf MK5 when I did this and stripped down the whole door since I replaced the door lock module. Don't remember if I could access the door wire loom before or after inner doow diassembly.

But I do remember that I had full access to the loom 😆 from inner door throught the door hinges...sorry if that was of no help, but you will see it when you take down the outer inner door panel 👍

So when I tried on Sunday, I could not get one of protective covers in door loom off. I will try again upcoming Sunday, hopefully with more results...otherwise it will be a proper dismantling job...it is a bit overkill for 1 damaged wire :-(, but glad it took 165k miles before it happened.

So I managed to get access to the door this evening via the above link, rather quickly. Thanks...., Fixing the wire with a splice was a struggle, so I have decided to  rewire from the sensor to the door loom connector, and solder the wire properly....It might take me a few hours fiddling in a freezing cold garage, but will hopefully save me from spending hundreds at the garage.....12 days till MOT...Fingers crossed.

Not in English, but this video shows what you need to do to pull the full harness back into the door so you can repair.
