Skoda Yeti AC not working properly

Featured Replies

I have a 2011 Skoda Yeti 1.2 Automatic.

The air conditioning stopped working at the beginning of the summer. I took it to the garage and I was told that the condenser was faulty. It was replaced and AC regassed. But after the repair done my Car AC has never been the same.

It is very strange the way it works now. When I set it to cooling, it starts to cool really well and after about 30 or 45  minutes or so, it then stops cooling, the cabin gets warmer and warmer,  the air flow reduces up to a point you can't feel any air coming out of the vents. Then there is a loud fan noise behind the glove box but air is not coming out of the vents.

When the car is parked for about half an hour there is a large puddle of water flowing under the car. It is the same problem with the heating.

It is also very strange that when I put the car in reverse, there is a loud fan noise behind the glove box. Also, when I operate the windscreen washer, there is a loud fan noise behind the glove box. The garage has run out of ideas. They are tired of seeing me. It has been five months of to and fro now.

Any ideas please???

All absolutely normal operation and designed in features, sounds like your garage never had any ideas to start with!

The heater flap goes to recirculating mode during the aforementioned events, the fan is whirring audibly because it is no longer trying to suck through what is probably a clogged pollen filter, I'm not sure why its doing the same after 45 minutes but it could well be a defrost cycle for the evaporator which would create the puddle of water which again is completely normal.

Try changing the cabin filter, I must do mine as well.

I reckon your garage has simply bought one of the plug it in and leave it to earn you money AC recharging stations and has little or no clue about the operation of the cars AC system.

What do you mean by the comment above?

Thank you JR. Very helpful post. I do hear a sort of a flap sound when the fan goes into the noisy mode.....

Depending upon which model from that year you have the dials alter.

One configuration has "climate control" which you set the temp and it automatically operates the fans as and when it feels necessary to achieve your target temp.

Thank you for the manual.

Yes my model has a climate control. I never used to fiddle with the fan controls. It did it automatically depending on the temp setting.

But after the repairs, it no longer does it automatically. If I left it to do auto, there will be nothing coming out of the vents.....

I will look into changing the pollen filter. Thank you.

Hello JR,

I checked my cabin filter today. It is a new one.

So I need to carry on troubleshooting🙂.
