Hi

Has anyone got any experience of these, the 80/90 based ones.

I'm looking to buy a 1993 one, but I've just found out the one I'm about to buy could have a big problem with the hood cover.

I need to know for tomorrow morning, so if anyone knows about these cars any help would be appreciated.

Basically I've found out the seller always just lifts the hood cover by hand, ie it is not latched down so it doesnt fly up when driving with the hood down.

The inspection chap found this and reckons is unsafe. I'll still buy it if its simple and not too costly to put right though.

Cheers

Martin

The roof is a nightmare. If its not latched down then there is a problem with it and they aint cheap to fix. Quite often the hydraulic rams leak and it looses all its fluid.

Are Hydraulic Rams used on versions with a power hood. This has a manual hood. The cover is supposed to only pop open by pressing a button. This button is only revealed when the drivers door is open.

Once the hood is popped you can then get your hand underneath it, to lift it fully and to start lifting the hood out.

The RAC inspection chap reckons this doesnt latch onto anything, how can that be? If it didn't work there should still be catches there??

Ahh thats for an electric roof.

Yeah there should be somethng there for it to clip into. Its been a fair few years since I worked on one hough tbh. But nothing is cheap on one, trust me.

HI Lummox

Thanks for your help, I have just been to have a second look at it this morning, and there is nothing at all to hold the lid down.

But I did find some cables, either side, tucked away under the trim.

The whole locking mechanisms either side are missing, so I've walked away, hope I get my £50 deposit back.

Thanks, Martin
