New Car Questions

Featured Replies

Hi long term lurker here, i have had a string of Skoda company cars and my 4th came last week, a branch new Octavia Estate VRS IV which i am very excited about (my first VRS), i am generally very happy with the car but i have some questions, this is my first hybrid and i feel like there is such a huge step change in how the works an how complicated the system is even compared to my last Superb. So for the first time i have resorted to asking strangers for help on the internet.

1)  At one point on startup the screen just asked me to be patient, it wouldn't let me do anything with the main menu so i couldn't force it to use the engine, it let me drive but not do anything with the menu, so it discharged the battery luckily then it kicked the engine in but i was so paranoid it was just going to run out of charge and stop. I got out and locked the car an go back in  an it was still the same. I got home and charged it up for an hour an then it was fine. It hasn't happened again. What should i have done?

2)  Is there any way to upload the missing radio station logos? On my previous Skoda's it was easy via the SD card but it doesn't seem to work off the USB C ports?

3) My biggest issue so far is my music, i used to have my music on the SD card, i had a bunch of folders with albums in and then a folder that i called my "mixed folder" which had over a thousand folders in with just singles in. So i could shuffle my mixed folder or play an album, 99% of album art showed up, mostly i had manually saved a "folder.jpeg" file for the art, all good.  However on the new system as well as it not just being able to play my "mixed folder" only the vast majority of album art isn't showing up... what's happened?

4) Does anyone else have issues where the main info screen keeps changing between different screens by its own volition?

5) Why is my "Front Assist" often unavailable?

6) When i turn off an leave the car, there is a orange symbol in the cluster which has 3 lines on it, any idea what this is all about?

Thanks for your help

Hiya! And welcome to the forums, and you new VRS IV.

Some of your queries (1. & 6.) I think are IV specific which I can't help you with as mine the 1.5TSI, hopefully others on here will chip in.

2. Radio Logos - IIRC, there is a menu setting which enables auto download of the logos. I reckon all the logos appear on mine after a little while of first tuning in to the channel, I'm not aware of ever having the wrong or no logo at any time.

3. Music - there has been a couple of threads on the media format for the USB-C sticks; the car seems to be quite fussy. Try this one, think it will help :

4. Screen Changing by itself - the car has gesture control in it; so waving your hand infant of the screen will change it from one to anther. Can be disabled in Settings though personally I like it as if reduces fingerprints.

5. Front Assist unavailable - this time of year it is often the case that dew forms on the front of the car and obscures the radar. It usually clears after a mile or two. Alternatively, it might just be road grime collected on it.

15 seconds press on on/off button to reboot infotainment. In any case, when battery is depleted car will switch to ICE, so nothing to worry about. Also, moving gear selector beyond D will put car in sport mode, you will see D changing for S on your dashboard. This will put the car in hybrid mode, too. Just a bit harsher press on accelerator and ICE will kick in.

Auxiliary heating or cooling is on. It should turn off some time after you lock the car.

Depends on the error message, I think. AFAIK, if radar or camera are dirty, it should say that Front Assist is temporarily limited or something like that. At least I had such messages when driving in snow and radar was covered in snow. If just unavailable - that might be the old known issue which should have been fixed on newer cars, older cars had to go through service campaign 4S58 to address that.

2. Thanks i have seen a setting somewhere about the logos but i will take another look, the only reason i assumed i would have to upload them is they didn't appear on my previous Skoda's either for some reason.

3. Thanks for the link i will check it out.

4.  I did not know that 😁 thanks i will investigate.

Thank you so much, is that the on/off button of the infotainment system or of the car itself?

Thanks for your help, it seems to happen much more often than it ever used to in my Superb, maybe its the different location. thanks for your help.

Infotainment's button, below the screen. It is just that if infotainment is stuck on constant loading, rebooting it is often the solution, as to many other issues.

Sorry new question 😀, i went on my first longish run for work today, i set off with 90% charge and did about 170miles an got 51mpg overall, is that typical from the IV? i was expecting more tbh.

Also i was using the sat nav an a weird squiggly lasso line was cast out Infront of the route of the car on the screen.  Any idea what that's all about?

thanks again for your help.

Depends on speeds. My experience is that on freeway speeds having full battery does not help much. I don't bother charging it on long trips. Though on slower trips (below 100km/h) the difference is huge and I typically have 3,5 - 4 L/100km (70-80mpg).

Many of the petrol engines seem to be bit tight when brand new, usually uses a bit more fuel for first couple of thousand miles.

Not really going to get much battery instead of petrol at constant speed on a flat road
