VW Tiguan Lift Springs +30mm on a Yeti?

Seems there might be some 'experience', opinions, information etc about possibly fitting VW Tiguan Springs on the Yeti...

 

I would appreciate any info and insights.

According to the gknautomotive spring catalogue, the Yeti 2.0TDI 4x4 uses 1K0411105DN front springs and 1K0511115CR or 1K0511115CS rear springs.

 

According to the Kilen/Lesjofors spring catalogue, the Yeti 2.0TDI 4x4 uses 1K0411105DM front springs and 1K0511115CR or 1K0511115CS rear springs.

 

Front coil spring

1K0411105DM 2 violet paint marks L66

1K0411105DN 3 violet paint marks L67

 

Rear coil spring

1K0511115CR 1 red paint mark and 2 green paint marks 0YK

1K0511115CS 1 red paint mark and 3 green paint marks 0YL

1K0511115CT 1 red paint mark and 1 brown paint mark 0YM

I have looked at my Build codes.

Front - L66

Rear - 0YK

 

So now the question is... what are the differences?  I will see what google has to say... but if anyone else knows... please chime in

 

Also Eibach responded as expected...

You could try these 1K0511115CT rear springs. They are two weight ranges higher than your current 1K0511115CR.

 

If you measure your current ride height (from centre of wheel to bottom of wheel arch) you will be able to measure how much they increase the rear ride height.

 

You might find that you gain about 15mm.

 

Another 15mm could be gained by fitting bigger outside diameter tyres, such as 235/60R16 on the standard 16" Yeti rims, ie. 7Jx16 ET45 5/112 57.1

There's also a good selection of 7Jx16 ET45 alloy rims, including lightweight forged alloy ones that weigh only 7.3kg each (from some old Audi A4/A6 from about 20 years ago).

To look for those lightweight forged alloy rims (from Audi A4/A6 about 20 years ago) you could search OEM part numbers 4B0601025P and 8D0601025K. They often come up on the German version of ebay.

Thanks, I have read nearly all the threads on the Yeti forum and found those that you mentioned. Including other sites

 

I also found cheap another set of the Matterhorn rims so would like to use those for both the summer and winter sets.

 

I am considering the Geolanders... but the 215/60 R17 size... (yes I am aware of the increase in size and all the legal ramifications involved) I want to compile all the info and decide from there

 

According to the tire size calculator... it says -7,7% speedo error... and when I compare my speedo now to GPS real speed... it would 'theoretically' be pretty damn close.  The wheel well rub (probable/potential) is what I am trying to figure out without mounting and finding out after the fact.

 

And lastly... I was also posting specifically about the Tiguan springs for the +30mm... as there is no actual thread or specific experience posted just a few 'comments in the wind' and am looking for anyone who would/could comment on the fitment as such.  Even a PM would be great.

 

The heavier duty OEM springs are also an option and will look into them as well

Well that is a trial of frustration... I figured I could get some info regarding spring length etc and judge from there.

 

But it seems by going to GNK online site... every manufacturer has a slightly different length/diameter etc... so no real way to determine anything there.  Plus spring compression rate which is NOT listed also plays a role.

 

Also to get a general overall lift... just raising the rear doesn't help.  And to change the springs in the front... I would think the shock absorber would have to be changed as well?  Correct? At least to keep things 'equal'.

 

And lastly... just installing (whether correct or not) all 4 of the Tiguan +30mm lift springs...

If you're looking at raising the front and rear suspension by 15mm (not including fitting bigger outside diameter tyres), then I expect you could get away with using the standard front and rear shock absorbers.

 

I say "standard" shock absorbers, but the standard shock absorbers on the Yeti are similar to the increased ride height/off-road suspension on the Octavia MK2.

 

There was one Briskoda member who did a similar thing to what you are after on his Octavia MK2 estate. Apparently, he wanted to use his car down deeply rutted mud tracks...hence his desperate need for more clearance than even an Octavia MK2 Scout offers. Perhaps search for his thread. He put a photo of the finished result. He might have used a Kodiaq front spring.

To continue the information gathering...

 

Seems there are a variety of OEM options here. But how is one to know which sets should be 'mated' ?

 

If the goal is multi rolled... increase the ride height, stiffer/taller suspension for towing/higher weight rating and to accommodate a larger tire size and of course for visual effect,  then what should be the direction to go?

 

This is what i have gathered so far. 

 

My Yeti as it currently stands... Stock

 

Front Spings- L66 PN: 1K0411105DM2, Shocks: unkown

Rear Springs- 0YK PN: 1K0511115CR1, Shocks. unkown

Rim and Tires: Matterhorn's with worn out Summer 225/50 R17 Tires, also have the classic boring 16'' winters on it currently

I am actually quite pleased with the way the tires fill in the wheel arches... a little more is ok as well.  Using the tire calculator the diameter would increase by about 20mm... so 10mm on either side towards the fender walls.  That should be no issue in the Foto above and visually probably makes little difference.

 

Question #1... Will lifting it (Delta 20mm Lift) or changing springs/shocks significantly change the wheel arch height?  or is that mostly affecting ground clearance?

 

Question#2... How am I to find the current shock installed if I cannot read it off the shock itself?

 

Question#3... How do I figure out which OEM Shock to Spring set up should be together? OR what is the difference between them?

I have acquired a set of standard VW Steelies, 6Jx16 but also found these Rims, No tires... (ALSO 6Jx16) which i do like significantly better 🙂

As I am looking at the Geolander A/T Tires... 215/65 R16 vs 215/60 R17

 

Question#4 

If I am understanding correctly... going with the 16'' size will allow a bit more offset 'clearance' when at full lock to avoid rubbing? 

It seems to be very individual when asking others about their set up and if it rubs.  But seems that most with 16'' do not... Some do and some do not with the 17''  Of course actual tire and wear is a factor too.

 

Questions#5

Lastly... in conjunction with Question#1... will the lift kit change the positioning/amount of space and allow more clearance when at lock?

 

Still toying with the idea of using the Geolander's year round or putting a set of  Summer 225/55 R17 on to the Matterhorns. Just for visual appearance. But not sure if that will create the rubbing situation again.
