Dashcam rebooting

Featured Replies

HI

I have my dashcam hard wired to the car but recently I have noticed that when I stop in traffic and the stop/start kicks in it will turn the dash cam off.

I only noticed as when the dashcam restarts it makes the start up noise.

I am sure I connected it to the rear wiper fuse and I am sure it never used to do it and it doesn't seem to do it every time.

Does anyone else have the same thing.

That will be caused by the voltage drop while starting the engine, my Nextbase camera does the same.

Possibly your battery SOC is a little lower now with the lower temperatures than it was during the warmer months.

I have been trying to remember to watch the camera when the car stop/start operates and did notice one time the camera said something like insufficient battery charge as it died then turned back on when the car started.

So it looks like it is the battery in the camera has had its day.

Well at lease I know it is nothing to do with the car.

It can possibly be a sign of the battery fading - but at only three years old, probably not. Possibly worth getting the battery tested anyway. NB. a battery test is only accurate if the battery is fully charged before testing - due to the 'smart' alternator fitted in these micro-hybrids,  the normal SOC will usually be around  75 - 80%.

Internal battery failure of the dashcam sounds more likely.

When the car restarts voltage will drop for a second, if the dashcam battery is charged then this will take over the shortfall for a few seconds.

When you turn the car off, does the dashcam immediately switch off?

Yes it does tend to turn off as the car is turned off, already suspected the camera battery as it never use to do it.

I can live with it until we change the car to the MK2 Kodiaq sometime in2024
