1.5 TSI cam belt change intervals

Featured Replies

Hello first post here. I am researching a new car and wanted to know the mileage intervals are for 1.5 TSI cam belt changes. Am considering a Scala or Karoq from 2018 onwards.

many thanks.

Welcome.

If it was first registered before July 2018 then Skoda / VW UK or Dealerships would have Recommended, given Guidance or said the Schedule in the UK, an non dusty country was at 5 years / 50,000 money and taken from £650-over £1,100 to change the Cam belt on a 1.5 TSI ACT.

Then in July they changed that and said it was many more years & miles before they needed changing.

Lots of threads on that, including in the Karoq section if you look.

Thanks!

In the Self Study Program for the EA211 Evo (1.5 ACT) it states the timing belt is fitted for life and in the Digital Service System whatever the data you input for age and miles upto 20 years and 200K it never states to even check the belt never mind replace it. Also replacing an EA211 Evo belt can mean the 007 timing equipment is required and this is roughly £3000. I have to admit though, with these new belt intervals I feel a bit like frying pan into fire, who wants to be the Guinea Pig? I know of a four year old sub 50K mile Tiguan 2L TDI where the belt failed because the pulley adjustment setting screw fell out and I have seen this on an A4 plus I know of others.

Thanks! I have had cars with timing chains so this is a bit new to me, have heard horror stories about failed belts from friends…
