Phantom lights!

Featured Replies

8 month old Octavia decided to randomly switch on courtesy front and rear lights on right side only while being parked in driveway . Was 24 hours parked in that same position. I started car and turned it off again and the lights switched off as normal. We were experiencing lower night-time temperatures last night which may be related to the issue.

Are you sure you haven't accidentally used indicator lever after car been switched of? There's a feature to enable parking/position lights on one side only by flicking indicator lever, but i can't remember exactly if there was any time limitation.

Not that I am aware of. Car was stationary for 24 hours before these lights came on by themselves.

I had a problem with the rear courtesy lights, they would randomly turn on and off whilst I was driving, as though Casper was in the back fiddling with them😉.

Following diagnostics the dealer swapped the light unit and been ok since. IIRC, it was worse in sub-zero temperatures.

Ok, just asking, as sometimes simple solutions are the best ones :)

Considering it's both front and rear, i would say it's probably not related to light units. Could be indicators switch, one of the computers or anything else. Strange issue, so hard to say what it might be.

@walleexdis you find a fix? My neighbour has just messaged me saying my lights keep coming on randomly in the night!

Dealer performed a few software updates at next service time and I havent seen the issue since.

I had a new issue appear last week where radio would not switch off when I was parking car. I could move through all menus, select a song on music player app, hit off button etc and radio stayed on even when leaving car. Volume adjustment was ineffective also. Radio eventually cut out and when I was leaving car the dash dial display was staying on. I returned to car a few hours later and all was ok.

They are too complex!

mines booked in next week to see what they can work out… very frustrating! Taken the shine off a new car. Thanks for the answer.
