Karoq 19 Inch wheels

Featured Replies

Have any Karoq Edition owners changed their wheels & tyres to improve the ride /comfort ?

I have a 2020 Edition model with factory fitted 255 40 R19 Bridgestones on 19inch alloys and because our roads are so bad find the ride hard ,also very easy to damage the alloys .

Could smaller diameter wheels with larger profile tyers be fitted to keep the same rolling size but improve the ride ?

Hi, we bought a 2020 Sportline last year that came on 19in rims with Bridgestones. Awful, we felt very single pothole and bump in the road. Advice on here generally was to downsize but having weighed up the costs I decided instead to keep the rims and fit Michelin CrossClimates which I’d had previously on a Subaru Impreza, Forester and Freelander. Changed the ride quality and comfort immeasurably, chalk and cheese. And Significant Other is happy 😄

Yes.

16" wheels will give the best ride.

The comfort of 17" wheels won't be quite as good as the 16", but they will still be in a different league to the hard riding 19" wheels.

This Czech website shows the Karoq alloy rims from the Skoda alloy rim accessory catalogue, but you should be able to order them from any UK VAG parts department.

Had exactly the same experience as BTandSid  regarding changing from Bridgestones to CrossClimate 2s and what a difference . So glad I tried these before ditching my 19 inch alloys.

Thanks very much for the replies on my topic of changing my 19 inch alloys to improve the ride ,l think I will try the Michelin Crossclimate 2s then .

If you go to  Crossclimate 2 consider the higher speed rating ( Y IIRC )  as they are rated XL load also so should help with protecting your rims.

Thanks for that Stonechip , protecting the alloy wheels is another concern, I did wonder if I could increase the profile / depth to protect the alloys ,we have 255 / 40 /r19 / 93y s on at the moment as factory fitted (only done 11000 miles ) is that the size you had on your sportline and if so what size CrossSlimate did you fit ?

I appreciate any information.

Michelin don't make any such claims about XL being better at protecting your rims than SL.

Hi  Rayjan.   I have a superb  so the size of my tyres are the factory recommended 235/40/r19   so relatively low profile.  I used to suffer from road noise and any size pot hole or surface deviation caused a horrible loud crashing sound through the car ( when fitted with the original OEM Bridgestone )

Changed to 235/40/r19  XL Y CrossClimate 2    and the ride quality and stability is light years better . Its only on very poor surfaces that you are aware of any road noise. I my opinion these tyres are far more sturdy than the Bridgestone and protect the rims better. I know Michelin have now bought out a SUV option but if I was you I would also compare them to the original XL ones to see what is different.

Good luck with your decision I hope it works out as well for you as it has for me

There are 2 elements to this:

the Bridgestones are low rolling resistance Eco summer tyres.  Think of them as optimised for nearer +25c.  Below about +10c very hard (and hopeless in wet).   Simply changing to any all season tyres eg Bridgestone Turanza 6 will mean softer on colder days.

The Michelin cross climate 2 is clearly softer than original when weather is not hot, and to be honest you would generally find any euro winter tyre (don't confuse with Nordic winter or snow tyre) even better still during November-March.

My feeling is where a car is offered with 4 sizes of wheel (in this case 16, 17, 18, 19 inch) then one just below middle is best all round compromise for comfort.  Go just above middle if sporty handling is your thing (but it's a family car, not a sports car).  Top size is for vanity, it's all looks on billiard table smooth surfaces, not something that is suitable for everyday rutted and potholed UK tarmac.

At other end of scale, if you drive elderly relatives around, especially those with arthritis or osteoporosis (weak bones) then order the smallest wheels and deepest softest (not Eco or sporty) all year tyres.   Serious comfort regardless of looks.

As you can see below, there are five variations of the Michelin CrossClimate 2 in the four standard 19" Karoq tyre sizes. Notice that they are all XL, so there's no need to consider SL vs XL.

225/40R19 and 235/40R19 are standard 19" Karoq front wheel drive tyre sizes.

225/45R19 and 245/40R19 are standard 19" Karoq four wheel drive tyre sizes.

The only Michelin CrossClimate 2 SUV tyre in these sizes is the 245/45R19 96W XL as shown below. However, the other versions could still be fitted to the Karoq...they are just not SUV specific.

I'm really confused. What does any of the above have to do with people joining or leaving the forum?

Shouldn't this be in the the Karoq or tyres section?
