Intermittent, DSG only 1st gear

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

2009 Superb II, sedan, 125kw Tdi, 6speed DSG. 205,000km.

There have been 2 instances 6 weeks and 3000km apart where the DSG only selects 1st gear when in D, doesn't indicate D1 on the dash, however. No reverse, no control in Tiptronic or S mode either.

Resolves itself after a cool down and turned off for a wee while.

No warning lights, just a big box of neutral in R, Tiptronic and S

I have a scan as attached, but that code has been coming up for the whole 12 years I have owned her.

I have only ever changed the DSG oil twice, with an oil filter each time. Last done at 180 - 185k.

Reading the scenarios around DSG then I see a range of problems from solenoid to mechatronic.

So, my questions are.

1. Ought I get a garage to put a commercial scanner on it to see if there are codes?

2. If there is a code, would you go to a 3rd party VAG specialist or a transmission shop?

3. Does this seem to be an electronic thing, as it is intermittent and also the car electronics not registering D1 at the very least?

Obviously, depending on the problem will be whether to scrap the car or not as they aren't worth much. I was hoping to get 300k out of her after spending $$$ on cambelt, new turbo, and front suspension.

Interested to hear other like experiences.

Thanks

T
