Tyre sensor faulty?

Featured Replies

Hi, my Kodiaq (2017 190bhp DSG 5seater) has yellow warning light on the dashboard indicating loss tyre pressure. Tyres are brand new and holding pressure. This happened also before they were changed.  If I reset it, the light comes on again within a few miles. I cannot get it to stay off! If this is a sensor is it an easy (home) fix or do I need to take to Skoda dealer? Many thanks, Andrew.

I believe it`s not tyre sensor as 2017 Kodiaq doesn`t have these, but an ABS sensor which counts wheel rotations and this way tells you if your tyre is pumped up or not.

Assuming all 4 tyre pressures are correct and you are pressing the reset button till it bleeps, then as above probably an abs sensor is faulty.

Best having car scanned to confirm fault.

There are two types of TPMS. The direct type with sensors in each wheel will show the actual pressures on the centre screen, but the indirect type (which relies on data from the ABS sensors) only indicates that a tyre is losing pressure. On our Karoq it does tell you which tyre is losing pressure; other brands don't and you have to discover which by yourself. I would have thought that with the indirect type, if the was a fault with the sensor there would be an ABS fault as well.

This is all incredibly helpful, thanks very much all for your time answering. I’ll now take it to my local garage and have them try to identify the offending sensor and get a price for replacement. Thanks again, A

When you say holding pressure - have you physically checked the tyre pressures across all 4 tyres and checked they are within the specification? Or have you just looked at the tyres?

Does your dash tell you actual pressures? If so, what wheel is showing faulty?

If it doesnt, you have indirect and this works off the rolling circumference of the complete wheel and tyre and as long as pressures are exact and been reset properly then there will be a fault with a certain corner of the car.
