Skoda Superb 2017-2022 dsg transmission

Featured Replies

I'm looking to buy Skoda Superb 2017-2022 2.0 TDI FWD or AWD, my question is what kind of DSG transmission does FWD have there is DSG6(?) And DSG7(DQ381). How can I tell what transmission is there? DSG6 is as good as DSG7? I know that the AWD is going always be stronger transmission, DQ500 or DQ381.

There is 110kw and 140kw versions for 2.0 tdi, I'm looking in to.

Whilst I don’t have a Superb, I do have an Octavia Scout 2019 fitted with the Dq381 dog. There is a known issue with this Dsg where the Mechatronics unit fails and the dsg will only select even gears. This is an intermittent problem that in my case only occurred on longer journeys above 50 miles. You get an error message “gearbox in emergency mode, safe to drive “. My car has only been driven normally, no heavy acceleration etc and had just don 50 thousand miles.c. thankfully I took out the 5 year warranty from new.   My car went in on the 27th of December and due to component shortages, I only got it back on Friday 26/01.  So make sure you get a warranty .

Thanks for your reply, your problem sounds like bad solenoid. Not very pricy, just that you have to open transmission to change it, plus service it as well. As I've read it's because they get dirt inside and fail, I guess that's unfortunate. I'm more worried about mechatronic change its 1k atleast just for parts.

I'm also not buying new car, so not so sure about guarantee.

Hi ,it was the me mechatronics unit that was replaced.

I think DSG6 (DQ250) has been used until 2018. It was mounted on both FWD and AWD.
I would say DSG7 (DQ380 for FWD and DQ381 for AWD) was mounted when FL versions started to appear.
Mecatronic issues on DSG7 (DQ380/DQ381) seems to be quite seldom. Nothing to do with DSG7 (DQ200), which was a nightmare for after sales.

DQ380 rare in Europe as for China.

DQ381 issues growing and growing and might become worse than it ever was with DQ200,s as VW Group / Skoda seam to be in denial.

It is said that people only come to forums with problems, so overblown.  True, VW want you to believe that.

The vast majority have no issues, and many with issues do not come to forums, they let Dealership staff convince them a rare issue. The internet / social media has caught VW out often.

When the 2009-2012 DQ200,s had issues there was a World Wide Recall in 2012 which Excluded Europe as not part of the World according to VW.

Then 2014 Europe did get included, just not a Recall and Voluntary Service Campaign / Work Shop / Recall Action.

Repeated now 4 times in Australia and 2009-2016.

  • 2 weeks later...

Got my 2018 Superb L&K with DSG (presumably DQ381) rewarranted in December aspart of the servicing / MOT / recovery / warranty offering. Odometer somewhere around 89k miles

The gearbox went into emergency mode on the M60 J12 / M62 junction at evening rush hour last week. Would only select first gear - no other gears available. The traffic was slow, but not that slow!

I got picked up and transported within an hour to a 'safe place' but then had to wait a further 5 hours for an AA man with a diagnostic tool to come and read the codes. By then I'd cycled the engine a number of times so the EML light had gone out. He drove it around the car park and said it was fine to drive.

Drove it another 70 miles home and reported it to Skoda dealer the next day to see what they wantred to do with it.

It went in ealier this week for a scheduled service (and a DSG oil change), and they've told me it requires a new control unit - so presumably the mechatronic unit - and it was covered under the warranty.

It's apparently on back order and could be 2 weeks before it arrives.

They showed some compassion though - they didn't change the DSG oil and charge me £300 for it as the warranty work requires replacing it anyway.

From what I remember the fault code was a clutch position sensor.

I guess the warranty saved me a bunch of money!

Just to finish off my little story, the wait was I think close to 3 months.

The 'two weeks' thing is just the timeline Skoda gives the dealer, and therefore they give to me. It was incredibly frustrating.

Not nearly as frustrating as losing 2nd, 4th, 6th and reverse whenever the car felt like it, nor the car deciding that 1st was the only gear I needed, sometimes when pulling onto a motorway slip road!

I was on the verge of dumping the car in a ditch at one point it got so bad, but it's been fixed a few weeks now and life is good again.
