'Clunk' on deceleration

Featured Replies

Wanted to put this in 'Ask a Tech' but the rules won't let me apparently...

When decelerating (i.e. when the mass of the car is thrown forward) there is a clunk from the n/s/f. Any ideas? Could it be engine/gearbox mounting shot? Could it be a worn lower wishbone bush? Car's done 45K by the way. Any views?

Not a tech, but you could be right, engine mounting.

Ross??

Aye 'ask a tech' has been moved to the Freedom section. Another perk to helping out the site with membership.

Does sound like a mounting to be, i'd get it looked at.

Its the arb or top mounts on the suspension shifting

Not a big issue, usually its the arb which might just mean new bushes.

The arb doenst usually cause issues on the vRS.

And i's be suprised if Phils top mounts are knackered with the ammount of suspension work that has gone on with his car..lol

hey... I had a 'clunk' and ended up with a new gearbox, new frame to mount it on, and new driveshaft... get it into the dealer to be looked at, could be more serious than it seems......

Could be worse...

i get a clunk on deceleration, clunks on acceleration, clunks on steering....

Im suspect of the gearbox side-mount.. apparently they *can* fail...

I would guess engine mount too. Take it to the dealer I had a creaky dash that turned out to be a duff steering rack!

i get a clunk on deceleration' date=' clunks on acceleration, clunks on steering....

Now where have I heard these noises?

I'm beginning to love the clunking!

Woodheads here I come!
