Chamois

Featured Replies

Further to the recent threads about alternatives to chamois I thought I'd just share my experience of them - Generally the ones you buy in shops are not really very good, what you need if a decent one from a sheepskin rug stall on a market

Got one from the Royal Cornwall Show a couple of weeks back and th edifference is staggering.

After an initial soaking and squeeze to get it in a usable state, I leathered nearly all of the Z without needing to wring it out (remember I dont have a big metal roof).

I suspect using it for the Octavia would mean wringing out a couple more times but for now, I'm sticking with the traditional dead sheep

The problem with a leather is that the grit has nowhere to go and just gets dragged along the car - with a Waffle Weave drying towel you have less chance of that happening because theres at least some pile to help absorb the grit (and theres almost always something that falls onto the car after washing or that isnt removed by washing).

I can dry the whole of my Fabia with a WW Drying Towel without even getting close to needing to wring it out :)

How are you supposed to keep chami's?

do you let them dry out

or like me

keep them damp in a plastic bag, only for them to go mouldy

They need to be

a, thoroughly rinsed out with clean water

b, rung out until just damp

c, put in a sealable plastic bag

and then

d, thrown in the bin!

Buy a waffle weave towel, or at least use an old terry towel.

 I feel a poll coming on to see if anyone, but anyone, disagrees with your recommended treatment for chamois leathers... Of course, it would be much more fun to ask peeps how many leathers went that way (from perseverence) till the penny eventually dropped

Mo

MG magic towel will just about do the octy without a wring.
