Drivers Door Window Switch Replacement

Featured Replies

Ever since my Octavia was new, the drivers window switch was difficult to press down so that it would recognise the auto-down/up. (Where you press past the first click which is just manual up/down control).

Recently it has started to become difficult to get the window to go down fully without multiple presses of the switch.

Each press drops it 10cm it so then it stops.

I've tried learning the end positions (hold close button for several seconds with window closed, hold open button with window fully open etc).

I was wondering how difficult it would be to replace the switch?

In the drivers side it has switched for the 4 windows together.

Can I replace one of them or are the all in one unit?

Not too terrible.

Unhook the centre plastic with spuggers - which should give you access to the area where the button console is based.  Make sure you order the same (or revised version) part number - as there are many different options available for these switches.

Its one module.

Thanks for the info!

I'll see if I can get to the part number first.

I found this video which makes it look quite easy as you mentioned.

Will have a go try to pop it up at the weekend.

I guess you can probably lift it up without removing the side piece with the right spludgers.

Thank you so much. I have been looking for days for this type of video tutorial.

If anybody needs to know some extra steps, after you pull out the main switch as shown in the video link posted by @Gabbo (kudos points to you), this is also useful. I have just repaired one of my buttons and it's working.

What did you do to repair it?

Before I took mine out I gave it a blast with an air compressor with small adapter fitting on the end.

It's not perfect still but considerably more reliable than before.

I guess dust and crumbs over time can work their way into the rocker.

My switch was cracked,  and I tried to repair it.

Using superglue and soft paper (tissues) an a tiny piece of plastic ... works like charm.

Basically,  the white cross button that pulled the window up, could not be pressed because of the cracked switch.

Now it's working.

Indeed, a lot of dust and crumbs will be there. I tried to clean the whole board with rubbing alcohol . Somewhat,  worked. :)

Cheers.

The switches can break if they are pushed or pulled with excessive force.  They should be light touch, but apprechiate with advancing age, the plastics on MK3's will start to become brittle.  Glad you got it sorted though.
