Nissan 350Z - 1 week review.

Featured Replies

Having now spent a week trundling round in the Z I thought I'd do a little review:

The noise is the thing that puts the biggest smile on my face, especially at tick over on a cold start, it burbles away like nothing with less than 8 cylinders could possibly do.

The looks of the car are something that you either love or hate, I find some people think its ugly and awrkward looking but I think its great  the rear LED lights on the 06 model are very cool indeed.

On the inside, the seats are very very good. It took me a while to find a good position, adoptiong a more laid back style than I was used to in order to get a clear view under the chunky windscreen frame.

However, the interior door handles look like they were designed and manufactured my Mr. Fischer price :thumbdwn: the operation of the headlights seems a faf compare to VAG cars too (twist the stalk). The cruise control is easier to operate than the Octavia one but I've yet to see if it uses the brakes (like the Vauxhall one does)

The glove box isnt in the dash but behind the passenger's seat. In order to get to it you need to tilt the seat forwards a little. The dumb thing is that when you operate the roof, the seat tilts forwards to get the passenger's head clear of the mechanism, it then goes back to wher eit was.... so why isnt there a button to do this in order to acces the glove box ? It would be nice to have a switch linked to the glovebox that tilted the seat on its own when the door was opened.

I've been running it in so have been driving sensibly for the last 800 miles so I havent pushed the performance or handling at all.

The stereo is cool, with a 6 disc changer in the dash, there is a big sub behind the driver's seat too. The phone kit is bluetooth too and it pairs with my phone automatically so I dont have to plug in and wires or cradles at all

Overall I'm very pleased with it, there are no squeeks or rattles what so ever and I'm sure I'll get used to the glove box and door handles eventually.

All I need now is the council to change the drop kerb so I can keep it at my house! - currently I have to get SWMBO to drop me at her parents each morning where it is lodging in their garage.

 How many miles before you can nail it?

The salesman claimed it only needed 500 miles before I can nail it. I'm keeping below 3500-4000 rpm, an dgenerally pottering around at the moment. I had one mad moment on my way home from watching Fast & Furious 3 but have yet to make use of the adjustable red line

Averaging 30MPG by the way.

Averaging 30MPG by the way.

I'm sure that will change once the loud pedal gets some proper use.

I keep glancing at the nismo accessory brochure too. £600 for a CAI and around double that for the rear cans :(

I'd read that ;) But for now if I mod it at all it will all be official dealer fitted warranty-intact mods ;)

OK bit of serious advice

The CAI Intakes for the 350Z are set very low & a couple of people have suffered from water ingress into the Engine when hitting deep puddles with the resulting hydralicing of the Engine (Engine fooked !!)

As well as the Nismo one K&N do one called the Typhoon

If you only want to Improve the noise fit a POP charger from Jim Wolf Technology, costs I believe about £110 Imported, can be brought from here http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CP&Product_Code=Z3303-JWT

Alternativly if your OK with S/hand get onto www.350zownersclub.com, s/hand ones come up from time to time, about £50 is the going rate, some Nissan dealers are OK with these & they wont invalidate the warranty but always worth asking first

Twin Turbo is £8000 + a clutch, start saving

I've been browsing the Z forum for a while but have yet to post much, no doubt I'll become a post whore soon enough

Thanks for the tip - I can now convince myself I dont want to spend more money

:( i think id sell my own mother for a Z i want one that bad

I have always loved the Z

In terms of looks, it's perfect. I love the chunkyness, the headlights, the whole front end, in fact the whole design of the car is just blooming gorgeous.

There is no way on this earth I would test drive one as I know that would be it, I would have to get one and poor old big v is not even 4 months old yet

Get that camera out Phil!!

I've been browsing the Z forum for a while

Which one?

This one, www.350zukownersclub.com or this one, www.350z-uk.com ?

There was a bit of a schism when the original owners site closed down at the end of last year, and the two above sites now exist (more or less happily) doing their best not to mention the other :jab: .
