Skoda road wheel smae oem numbers - crucial?

Featured Replies

I have 17" teron alloys. I am looking to buy one as a spare. I understand the tyre size numbers (225/45 ZR17 94W), but for a spare rim do I have to get the exact same oem (mfr part no) numbers (5e0071497a8z8)?
I see several option available but the second-hand ones, while the correct size, have different oem numbers.

Many thanks for any advice.

Not really,

If you want as a Spare, an emergency wheel / tyre to fit and reduce speed and use until you get a repair or replacement then get what you want that fits and gives an almost identical circumference / total diameter with a tyre on.

If you are going to need to put it on and leave on and carry on a journey get matching to the other on the car.

Will an inflated 225/45R17 7Jx17 ET49 5/112 57.1 fit in the spare wheel well without raising the carpet? If not because it's too wide, you could consider using a 205/50R17 6.5Jx17 ET49 5/112 57.1. The VW Caddy 2020 onwards uses a steel rim in this specification rim. The Caddy uses a 215/55R17 on that size rim, which is too big for the Octavia MK3. The 205/50R17 would better match the 225/45R17, compared to the more common 205/55R16 6.5Jx16 ET46 5/112 57.1. However, I don't think it would be a big advantage using a 205/50R17 6.5Jx17 ET49 5/112 57.1 rather than the more common (and Skoda approved) 205/55R16 6.5Jx16 ET46 5/112 57.1 because it would be best to fit either to the front so that the unbalanced car understeered rather than oversteered.

5E0071497A 8Z8 is from the accessory catalogue, and aren't factory fitted alloy rims. The factory fitted equivalent is 5E0601025E 8Z8.

Not all alloy rims in the accessory catalogue have a factory equivalent, and vice-versa.

Notice that the format xxx071xxx means the alloy rim is from the accessory catalogue. The xxx601xxx format means they are factory fitted rims or are from the normal Skoda parts catalogue.

When purchasing new, xxx071xxx alloy rims are often well under half the price of the equivalent xxx061xxx rims. This is so that Skoda can compete with aftermarket alloy rims on price.

There aren't always direct equivalents, but 5E0601025E 8Z8 and 5E0071497A 8Z8 do appear to be the same rim, except for the part number.

They both have a specification of 7Jx17 ET49 5/112 57.1 and will normally be fitted with a 225/45R17 tyre size on the Octavia MK3.

Most of the secondhand alloy rims will have the xxx601xxx format, because they are far more common than alloy rims supplied from the Skoda accessory catalogue.

Just bought a 15 plate Octavia with 17” teron alloys , when I looked in the boot it had a horrible looking 15” steel spare wheel , I complained so the guy swapped it for another steel spare from an estate Octavia , this one is 16” , I’ve no idea what size steel is supposed to be with the car but guessing a 16” with a 55 profile tyre would be fairly close to a 17” with 45 tyre on?  I was going to purchase a used 17” teron as a spare but now reading it won’t fit in the boot?
