Hi, Just had the 4 year 40,000 mile service done on my Octy vRS.

On the service report they have ticked the 20,000 mile service box and then ticked all the boxes for all the checks. At the bottom they have put N/A against all the 40,000 mile additional checks, which appears to include replace the spark plugs.

On the bill the following parts are listed:

Filter x 1

Plug x 1

Screenwash x 1

Mobil ESP Variable x 5

Filter x 1

Brake cleaning fluid x 1

Specialist Lubricant x 1

Surely there should be spark plugs listed as being changed.

The car has 20,800 miles on the clock but in my mind should still have had more done in a 40,000 mile service. Anyone know if anything else is missing from this list that you would have expected to be changed in a 40,000 mile service.

Oh and they forgot to stamp to Service Book.

Its on Variable, QG1, 2 years or 20,000 miles. Last service was in July 2004. Service indicator came on at the beginning of June.

I had an Inspection Service (variable) with additional items done at 4 years and 16781 miles. I opted to have the spark plugs changed but, having seen the condition of the original ones, I would have been happy to let them go to 40,000 miles before changing them. Was the brake fluid changed - it is due every 24 months?

Invoice lists in capital letters:

REPLACED BRAKE FLUID CHANGE

According to my wife they rang her and said did she want the brake fluid changed.

But as you can see from the parts listed on the invoice, only Brake cleaning fluid is listed at a cost of

There isn't a 40,000 mile service as such on variable servicing. Your car needed an Inspection Service and an Oil Change Service, plus a brake fluid change (every 24 months) and the air filter element replacing and the housing cleaned (every 48 months). The spark plug change interval is every 40,000 miles so they didn't need changing. From what you say, the brake fluid has been changed but you haven't been charged for the fluid - so there is no reason to complain about that.

Now for some not so good news. Have you read the 'sticky' below about the new policy on cambelt changes? This policy change was announced in a Skoda Technical Bulletin dated 19 May 2006 but my dealer wasn't aware of it as of this morning - but now is.

Thanks, that clears that up then. The only thing missing is the stamp in the log book then. I was aware of the cambelt change at four years. I posted several times over the past few months about the change in policy by VW as my Golf GTI, four years old has just had the belt changed. I will enquire with the dealer and get it done in a month or so.

Interesting that SkodaAuto UK delayed the announcement - or maybe VAG hadn't decided to make the 4 year time limit apply across the whole VAG range until recently. Whatever, it makes owning a VAG car that much more expensive for those like me who only do a low annual mileage. And it is interesting that the New Octavia's Service Schedule booklet does not reflect that change as yet. :(

I am off the the dealers at lunchtime to get the service book stamped. I will quiz them about the cambelt change. Last week they still said 60,000 miles.

When i enquired about the cost of the 60k service when i had my 40k done, it pretty much made my mind up that I would be selling the car before 60k.

I was quoted £252 for the cambelt change but probably use Awesome as they quoted £329 with water pump, I don't think it's that bad for the use you get out of the car!

£285 for service, plus another £350 for cambelt, water pump and tensioner.

Wish i was up in Yorkshire, things are just so expensive down here :(

At that price thats I may as well just put the money towards a newer car as the newer car would be worth more a year down the line.

EDIT:Those prices were cheapest of a few places i called and all plus VAT.
