Handbrake and Gear Shifter

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

just grabbed these off Fleabay -

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250001216805&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:UK:11

I had a thought afterwards though. I think the leather that surrounds the shifter wont match, it's a sort of greyish colour. Do sport Fabia's have a black leather surround too, if so does anyone have any part numbers?

I know I should probably post this in ask a tech (And I will join the second I get some spare cash) but does anyone know how to remove the gear shifter and handbrake?

I've just bought some of those too from the same seller!

Mine weren't actually black, more a dark grey so they match quite nicely.

The handbrake cover should just pull off, mine did anyway. I think that Skoda must have changed the shape of the handbrake slightly at some point though as I had to modify the new cover to get it to fit.

The gear shifter is relatively easy. You need to remove the front ash tray and there is one Torx screw underneath the bezel around the gaiter can then be unclipped. There is a metal clip on the underside of the gear shifter which needs to be carefully openned and will allow the shiftr to be removed. There is a plastic collar on the underside of the shifter which clamps the gaiter in place and this needs to be removed without damaging it as you need it for the new one. If finished up trimming one of the clips off the underside of the old gear shifter to get this off.

I also had to trim a little plastic off the upper side of this collar to get it to clip back into position on the new shifter as the leather cover means that there is less space for the top of the gaiter to fit into. Even so it was still pretty difficult to clip back into position.

Once you've done all that slip the shifter back over the lever, crimp the new metal clip to hold it and clip everything else back together.

Hope this helps.

I couldn't pull tha handbrake cover off, maybe I wasn't trying hard enough. Do you have to remove the main centre console first or should you just be able to seperate it from the lever as it is?

Mine just pulled off, but maybe it had been loose in the past!

There are two little barbed clips at the rear of the shaped part where your hand goes. If you have a look down inside your new one you should be able to see them.

Mine came off without removing the console.
