No brake fluid coming through to rear left, (passenger N/S) caliper.

Featured Replies

Hello experts.

My mk1 vrs failed it's MOT for the first time last week, tester reported that there is no brake functuin on the rear passenger caliper.

Trying the braking on axles stands at home & he's right, with brakes on the rear passenger wheel still spins.

I've basically fault found right back to the ABS pump, (line from caliper to ABS pump is clear).

Applying pressure to the master cylinder & all other 3 calipers flow fluid.

I moved to the ABS pump & loosened the outlets on that & confirm fluid flowing out of Front R, Front L, Rear R, but of course Rear L is dry nothing coming out.

The two pressure lines (input) into the ABS pump from cylinder are also good.

Just checking with you folks 'the experts', would you agree that it sounds as if the compensator inside the ABS block has failed?  I'm thinking of ordering a new 1J0 614 417 D ABS pump/compensator.

Many thanks

I had a similar problem,  bought 2 new rear calipers + b/pads, offside bled ok working fine, when I came to do the n/s (using pressure bleeding from the master cylinder)

nothing, no fluid came out. Garage thought the ABS block had packed up or had a bad airlock. I bled the ABS using VAG-COM process still nothing.

My final attempt was to replace all of the nearside brake line with Cunifer +  flexable hoses from the ABS to the wheel cyinder. Bled it SUCCESS !!!.

I think this hose is the culprit, and as was said earlier had collapsed and was acting as a one way valve. When I took it off bits of the inner wall came out :-

The offside one does not seem to have such a severe  bend, but I do plan to replace it as well. Also I would suggest fitting return springs to the hand brake mechanism (see below)
