Headlights Mod Software Adaptation

Featured Replies

Hello AllĀ šŸ™‹ā€ā™‚ļø

Ā

After a lot of extensive reading up on this, I am a lot nearer achieving what I want to do, but at the same time still a bit confused/wary.

Ā

I want to implement ā€œDIM-DIPā€ headlights in my car.

"It was a system whereby if you switched on your sidelights *and* the engine was running, the dipped beam headlights would also be switched on, although they would be fed via a resistor, and so would be dimmed - hence dim-dip.Ā Far from not being needed, dim dip was a very useful device to have. There are many times when lights are nescessary to increase ones own visibility without the need to illuminate the road ahead.Ā ā€œ

Ā

Like I said from my research and thus understanding thereof, it is possible, or there is no real reason it isn’t.

Ā

If a/any given leuchte can have one than one function, then this is what I wish to avail.

Ā

I can’t find a leuchte pertaining to position lights; which is what I would have used and it would have been [tentatively speaking] relatively simple/straightforward. Alter said leucht to also include switching on the headlights then using the dimmwert value reduce intensity of said headlights to say 33% or maybe 25%.

Ā

And like I said if my understanding is correct of leucht hierarchy, then when the headlight switch was turned to normal/standard dipped beam it would override the former and provide headlamp illumination at full 100%.

Ā

Playing around [sorry Experimenting 😁] with what I want to achieve; I did do it of sorts...

Ā

In the leuchte pertaining to each dipped beam headlight, I changed the dimming value from 100 to 33 and lo-and-behold YES! it achieved what I wanted! But like I said ā€œof sortsā€; then I returned the 33 values [back] to 100.

Ā

OK assuming you are still reading this so far, if I added values dimmwort values of 33 to the leuchte for dipped beam headlights how would that work when I wanted 100 brightness? if as I have read about leuchte hierarchy, the higher the letter value the higher the priority.

Ā

If the above wouldn’t work, then how about using the ā€˜spareā€ main beam position? i.e. main beam only comes/stays on at/with headlights; if you push the indicator stalk forwards when in any position other than headlights on, nothing happens. So could this be used? if so how? [and as said above] when headlights were on they would override the aforementioned brightness value.

Ā

If the above wouldn’t be a good solution how about linking to the dimmwort value for the parking lights leuchtes left and then right?

Ā

I bet the above ā€œessayā€ has put off most but the most ā€˜hardy’ or technical or interested people!

Ā

Now looking forward to input from you folks! šŸ™‚

Best regards,

Have you got the H4 or the H7 headlight set up?Ā

Have you got DRL?

If so set up Scandinavian DRL.

Ā

That is what I have done.

It has the LED DRL which works very well on the front.

I have led drl.

Thanks for your input; sincerely appreciated šŸ«±šŸ½ā€šŸ«²šŸ¼šŸ™‚

Ā

I will definitely look into doing as you have described.

Ā

An idea has popped into my head: according to pages and pages of leucht programming Ive read on the 'net, if I associate both sides parking light with the headlight function and then set it to a dimming value of say 25 or 33 oa quarter or a third of 100%] and then going by the leuchte hierarchical structure and the fact that headlights are connected/illuminated via ignition only they should only work when both conditions are true light switch is at sidelights position and ignition is on and again as per leucht hierarchy as soon as the light switch is turned to dipped beam headlights then my "mod" should be overridden by the BCM's Programming and the headlights should illuminate at 100[%].

Ā

Any thoughts/comments on the above paragraph?

Thinking of the last car I had with Dip/Dim and comparing it to my present car's with DRL,

I would say that the DRL front lights are brighter / more noticeable than the Dip / Dim I had?

Ā

I am not sure you are going to achieve anything useful.Ā šŸ¤”

I suppose its a personal preference thing, but I liked/like the look of the car when front fogs are on, that the headlights are illuminated at reduced intensity. P.S. I tried putting the above into action but it didn't work; I.e. Nothing happened at all. So I need to do some more research on deciphering all the terms pertaining to any/a typical numbered leuchte and what they mean and refer to. Because if a given leuchte can have more than one function Attached to it,then in essence dim-dip should be doable as an additional function.Ā

Ā

At least on these forums people don't judge/prejudge and hence criticise rather than provide constructive help/experiences/input which is what they were created for.

I haven’t [as yet] but, very grateful indeed for your guidance, I will do.

P.S. This VCDS software is not very good in that you can only make one change then you have to close controller and come out of it and then go back in if you want to make more modifications; this is very monotonous/time consuming; better than implementing the software to work in this way would be an undo facility whereby the software would remember say the last 100 changes made so-far with a one-click to be able to undo them in any number of batches.
