Do I have a dual mass flywheel or a single mass flywheel?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I was wondering whether I could get some help please. So I’ve recently purchased a MK3 Octavia 2.0 tdi 6 speed automatic (dsg). So recently I’ve been having issues with the vehicle. Whenever I start the vehicle there seems to be a grinding noise at idle also when i

rev the car a rattle appears. Even when I’m driving that noise continues from time to time. When I ease off the accelerator and get to lower speeds the noise appears (appears when gearbox drops from 3rd to 2nd . I’ve had AA out and the AA man stated it was a dual mass flywheel. He stated that it shouldn’t be on its way out due to the mileage but said it was this. However the warranty company, who are willing to fix the vehicle have stated there isn’t a dual mass fly wheel on the vehicle and it works on some sort of other mechanism (can’t exactly remember what he said). Would someone be able to tell me whether it does or does not have a dual mass fly wheel if they’ve got the same car? And is there a way I could find out without having to get down to the nitty gritty and pulling the car apart?

thanks in advance.

It will be a DQ250 Box. Dual mass flywheel as standard.

Thank you for the response. I’ll be sure to get it checked asap then. I didn’t want to get the gearbox done and then find out it isn’t even the gearbox. Appreciate it 🙏🏾
