oil change

Featured Replies

Hello everybody, i'm interested to know if any of you have used an electric sump oil pump when doing an oil change, if so what did you think of how it performed compared to regular method of draining the oil using the sump plug removal ?

It's a lot easier and quicker, however there are some seriously OCD people who don't like that it leaves a teaspoonful of old oil behind even though they're about to tip ~5L of lovely fresh oil in to flush it out and dilute it down to one part per thousand!

Electric pumps are ok but not the best you have to get the oil at the right temp  eg to hot the plastic tube collapses to cold will not pump it out, I used to use a vacum pump on my old Fabia TDI mk2 as the dipstick hole was a good size for the tube but have now found my newer MK3 1.0 TSI is so small the tube will not go to the sump bottom so have reverted back to the normal drain plug way, in pne sense it's about even as the drain plug way is more involved but using a pump is easier but then you hav to clen it all up before the next use so as they say swings and roundabouts

Thank you for your input 👌

As an aside, you don't have to warm the engine to suck out the oil using a pump, it isn't really necessary these days at all in fact because modern synthetic oils are so thin when cold.
