CAI fitted

Featured Replies

I have just fitted a CAI that i got off Ebay. I have to say i am quite impressed with the extra noise, and the throttle response seems a little better.

I would say though that i found it a bit of a pain to fit. It is supposed to fir Golfs, Octys, Leons and A3's i think but I could only get one of the mounting points to line up with the correct place in the engine compartment but it is not going anywhere.

I also was surprised how low the air filter ended up being, mine is easier to get at from under the car now  but seems quite close to the horn.

Also i have hear that it may be a good idea to replace the filter that came with it for a better one. Can anyone recomend what type to get and where to get one from please??

The thing only cost me

Sounds very similar to the abd one i put on mine but yours was much cheaper, mine was about

I'd go for a 'Green' cotton filter. The supplied filter is likely to be a very low quality one.

With the filter being so low you're going to pick-up a lot of crap.....you'll probably have to clean it a lot more often.

Also you're more likely to get water ingress although it would have some distance to travel.

Sounds like the one Gerry has, the metal filter is pants.

Up the pipe you mean? No problem for an engine basically acting like a vacuum cleaner, if the end gets in water thats ya lot. Doesnt take alot of fill up a cylinder and bang, new engine please.

The filter seems to be overed in some sort of wire mesh??

I take it that if i go for a green one then i just need to make sure that it will fit the size of the induction pipe in this case 3" ?

I've seen the INVO ones...looks nice but as you say the filtration properties aren't very good.....if you take the filter off it'll probably be full of fine particles.

I dont think that the full filter is metal, it looks more like a paper type stuff covered with a wire mesh????

How often should i clean something like this???

Depends on how dirty it is but as a rule of thumb as often as the standard one is changed so...every 10k...more often if you like.
