2.0 TSI P0343 error no start

Featured Replies

Afternoon forum users!

Car been perfectly fine, 40 mile round trip yesterday albeit in very wet weather on return journey. Went to start today, and just didn't carry on turning over. Starter motor engaged, turned engine momentarily, then stopped. Tried a few times. no strange noises just cut off once started turning over. Finally it started after deciding it would continue cranking for a few seconds, and then EPC light came on with P0343 error. It drives ok, but went to re-start it and whilst it did start again after a long crank, i don't obviously want to risk getting stuck somewhere. I am worried it is timing related, any ideas?

Thanks in advance

problem found. the wire to the camshaft position sensor was broken - looks like mice or a rodent had nibbled through it, as where i live is near these trees where we often see squirrels and mice etc. I have used some block connectors to reconnect the wires for now, but will need some better connections or solder to do it properly at some point. Thankfully it was clearly visible (once i realised the sensor is the one on the front of the engine and not the one attached to the magnet on the side of the cam cover (whatever that is!)
