Does auxiliary coolant pump affect engine power?

Featured Replies

Good day everyone

Apparently my auxiliary coolant pump needs to be replaced. The check engine light is on.

The problem I'm facing is that the car can't go faster than 60 kmh, unless it's downhill.

I just don't see what the auxiliary coolant pump has to do with the engine power, and I'm afraid of fixing it and keep having loss of piseer

The aux coolant pump operates after you turn off the engine to run coolant around the engine for a short time to avoid hot spots.

You need to read the stored fault codes to give us a clue for further diagnosis.

It will help too if you tell us your engine code (on a sticker in the spare wheel well) and what steps you have taken so far.

That's why I don't see what it has to do with my loss of power 🤔

On forums I've read that it shouldn't affect the engine power, just one guy mentioned that anything going wrong electrically with that pump affects the engine power

I've been to two garages are both showed me the auxiliary coolant pump error

I'll try and get a better diagnosis

You have been to two garages whose idea of how to diagnose a fault described as "my car has lost power" is to reach for their fault code readers.

I agree that you need a proper/better diagnosis just as long as you dont have Battery Man as a neighbour 😄

It is a possibility that the engine may run in Limited Operating Strategy if the cooling pump is mission critical but as we dont know what engine you have............................

That's my biggest concern. Reliable garages don't have appointments available this month 🙃 so yes I'm not sure my loss of power can be caused by the auxiliary coolant pum.

My engine is CAYC, 1.6 TDI
