Android Head Unit to replace Bolero radio

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Aliexpress sell many different Android Head Units supposedly tailored to my Octavia 3 (2015).

I just completed installing one to my wife's Kia Picanto and it works very well for Carplay, Android Auto, navigation and music streaming. And price was very reasonable as well.

However, my current Bolero radio also has functions to display and configure various vehicle settings in Octavia and the MFD as well as support for back sensors.

Did anyone try any a head unit and can you still see and configure such settings from the Android unit - or what will be missing once removing the Bolero?

Oh man, you should have read different threads on android head units.

For the reverse radars, you have to set the canbus for vag vehicles in the settings of the head unit.

For what you will be messing...

Horrible phone call quality

Very limited car settings

No error message will be displayed

Hit and miss on displaying drive mods.

You will not hear the GPS instructions if you are listening to the dab, musique from the sd card or streaming (you have to install a tts app and set is as gps for that)

Carplay and aa work but try talking to it, it will not recognise anything you say

If you can live with this then the functionalities can get quite interesting

I tried to search first but found little info on this particular topic. But it doesnt exactly sound very promissing. Wonder if the same for all the various Chinese brands or specific ones. My wife's EKIY T7 unit works well as mentioned but has no CANBUS integration at all.

Check out this topic, I was quite active on it at the time and it is very complete.

I ended up going for a mib upgrade at the end
