Where is the front air control/recycle flap (motor) on the mk4?

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I've seen numerous answers for earlier cars, and one thread about the Mk4, but none actually show where the unit is located on our cars.

My car has developed a significant 'clunk' noise that appears to come from under the passenger seat (RHD, UK spec)

It sounds like the seat bolts are not aligned properly and is a noise that you'd associate with the seat moving into place when sliding it front to back on it's rails.

However I removed the seat and the noise was still there, so plugged in OBD eleven which told me there was a fault with the front air recirculating motor - it is jammed and has failed numerous times.

All seems a bit odd but as I have had the glove box and factory stereo out a couple of times, it is not inconceivable that I've trapped a wire.

Just taken the glovebox out again to have a quick look and can't see anything obviously stuck but, everything is so tightly packed and not obvious.

I don't want to start pulling the car to bits when I don't really know what I am looking at or for,  hence this question.

Does anybody know where the offending actuator / flap is located and how to get to it on the mk4?

Thanks. :)

Number one on this diagram. So up and left of the pollen filter housing behind the glovebox (for Climatronic equipped cars)

Thank you. That is more or less the same as what I found on the MK3, so guess it makes sense as the car isn't totally new.

I do have Cimatronic (vRS) and will follow this through next sunny day :)

Will report back with my findings, in a bid to help others that end up here.
