Lowering the Citigo, dampers as well as springs?

Featured Replies

Looking at lowering my 2016 black edition, is it OK to just use lowering springs, maybe 35mm or would it be advisable to look for suitable dampers too ? Also to throw a spanner in the works I'm also considering using a spare set of T5 17" Steels with 215/35/17 tyres with the hub conversion kit, anyone done this and used springs and dampers or gone for the coilover route.....

That wheel / tyre size will not fit even if the car is not lowered.

You might want to check the weight of the 7Jx17 ET55 5/120 65.1 and 7Jx17 ET56 5/120 65.1 steel rims that the VW Transporter T5 uses. The gross weight of this vehicle is huge compared to the lightweight Citigo...and hence the steel rims that it uses need to be much stronger and therefore much heavier than the lightweight Citigo rims.

Have just checked, the tyre size I need is 195/35/17, wheels will fit fine. Been done on the VW UP so would be fine on the Citigo.

Alcar 9215 and Alcar 9216 are both 17" steel rims.

Alcar 9215 is the stylized steel rim as shown below.

mytyres, camskill, and blackcircles aren't listing any 195/35R17.

That size doesn't appear to be available...at least in the UK.

The standard 17" wheel size on the VW Up! is 195/40R17 fitted to a 6.5Jx17 ET43 4/100 57.1 rim, although some owners have changed to 205/40R17 on that rim. Bear in mind that ETRTO lists the minimum rim width for 205/40R17 as 7J.

Outside diameter of tyres

195/35R17 568.3mm

195/40R17 587.8mm

205/40R17 595.8mm
