One for the suspension experts

Featured Replies

I've been a little suspect of the handling on my 65 plate 4x4 (not Scout) for the past week but thanks to Roofers, Scaffolding and slates I havent been able to get her on the drive to have a proper poke about and made do with pushing the wings down - which was a little bouncy.  Not excessive, but enough to make me think its time to swap out the struts and coils.

The MOT is due next month and I was planning on a full service with the Haldex this week (not happened due to the above) so hopefully by the BH weekend she'll be wheels up and I can crack on.

I've read on here that Scouts & VRS run on 15mil higher suspension which with the state of the roads as we have apparently become a TPLASH, may be useful.

So as its the same body would the taller damping be interchangeable or any recommendations on a more heavy duty set - I've a woodburner so tend to collect the odd tree?

Can't go wrong with Bilstein B6 dampers, if you are after heavy duty items

Change the springs and top mounts while your there.
just changed mine on 67 plate vrs estate (also carries trees)

the spring rust on the very top inside edge on the front.
my front end is now 20mm higher than before I changed, springs had flattened at the top.
my shocks were hardly damping compared to the new ones.
I put Blistein B4 all round, got from Autodoc. If your going to do it yourself.

Appreciated.

Roofers have finished and there is oil round the strut top so it'll be new everything 😞

Once I've finished servicing the Haldex and bought the bits.

Scouts run with 10mm ABOVE standard ride height. VRS's run with 10mm BELOW standard ride height. They each have their own suspension setup and the suspension/dampers for the Scout are bespoke to that model.

Thanks all.

The Sachs and Febi catalogues proved useful.

What was interesting was the Scouts shocks and springs are interchangeable but come with a 3rd world country (as I cant recall the exact label) road tag, seemed somewhat apt for the state of our roads and the direction were all heading currently.

'Cept they'll have more reliable power supplies.
