Mk2 1.2 not starting + EPC light

Featured Replies

Hi there! Exactly when it was not supposed to, my Mk2 1.2 just died at startup. The EPC light in the dash remains lit and nothing happens when I turn the ignition. Initially, there was a clicking sound when turning the key, now nothing. I checked the battery and some fuses. Can anyone offer some pointers? I’d greatly appreciate some help, I can’t move it to go anywhere for a fix. I’m happy that although it happened in the worst possible moment, at least it happened right in front of my house 😃

Hello, this sounds like the wire to the starter motor solenoid has broken.

Depending on which version of 1.2 engine you have, this may be visible from above if you look vertically downwards to the right of the front of the engine.

Fixed! It wasn’t the wire, but I followed your lead and removed the starter - it was the brushes, one of the 4 was completely gone. Ordered new ones and I’ll replace tomorrow. Thanks!
