Hi,

I am thinking of buying my first Skoda Octavia MKIII, a 1,2 petrol engine from 2015, how reliable is this model? would like to hear about its weaknesses and its manintanance in general.

thanks in advance

Simon

Hello Simon, welcome to the forum. I'd think it can be summed up in one word - very - although my Octavia is the 1.4 version.

Thanks Warrior,

Yes I read quite a lot of articles that say good words about it, just wanted to hear a real user

Do you think 1.2 engine is weak compare to the cars weight, and has a hight petrol consumption? I drive mostly in city

I was very surprised when I first drove the tsi engines. All the smaller ones were amazingly smooth and very quiet also fuel efficient.

Not familiar with the output of the 1.2TSI, but even the 1.0 110 in SHMBOs Fabia would work OK in an Octavia - particularly around town.

I particularly like the smooth pick up of the 1.4 150, even when revs are hovering down around 1200 - and easily able to hold 6th gear at around 40MPH.

Yeah I like to keep the engine around max torque so 1400-1500 minimum so I'll drop a gear so it's under less load.

I think a 1.2 or 1.4 tsi that have to drag the car with a weight of circa 1200 kg, is sufficient for driving in the car, the price for 1.2 is cheaper, but someone told me the benefit of a stronger engine for driving the car in cities is that you need to give a slight pressure on the gas pedal to let it start, and that gives a better fuel consumption, do you agree on this?

What is the best way to keep the turbo charger safe and run smoothly? I guess an oil change every 8 months for driving in town is suitable, but other than oil change how do you keep it running safe and smooth?

The Fixed Oil & Filter regime of 12 months / 9,4000 miles is good enough, and if you are doing the 9,400 (10,000) miles in 8 months then change the oil & filter but if you are not doing that mileage annual will be just fine,

I would be using 5w 40 Full Synthetic oil  VW502 00 with a 1.2 or 1.4 TSI FIXED Regime

& not Long life 0w 30 FS III or 5w 30 FS III  VW504 00 / 507 00    even though Long Life is commonly used for fixed or variable service regimes.
