Drivers side door wiring loom recommendations

Featured Replies

Hi guys and gals

my new superb (to me) mk2 2011 plate estate.

has the usual snapped wires in the loom issue.

i believe there is a better loom available for the doors now that is slightly longer and less tight is this correct and if so do you guys have any good sites or brands to go for as id like to get one in.
I have bodge fixed it for now and cut the grommets and retaped up for now so will need a new one of them too. At least my central locking works for now.

i doubt it will work for long though so want to get it done.

No mate. I had this issue literally this week when my doors deadlocked itself due to dying wiring looms.

Basically, I've not been able to find an after market door loom. The VW group specialist garage I use says you can only get them original from the manufacturer.

However, there is just no stock of any door looms either in the UK from Skoda UK or the Master Depot in the Czech Republic, I had a dealership check that one for me on their systems.

What it is the looms were originally made in the Ukraine. The factories there are probably making drones and shells now.

And, I wouldn't recommend you trying any loom that isn't exactly the one made for your car. Even if the connections, wires etc look identical. I replaced a dead loom with one from a scrap yard that came from a newer superb, and it only half worked. Some things will not work properly. You need the exact original one.

I had no choice but to take the car to an auto electrician to extend the wires and repair. The guy also wrapped extra electrical tape and sprayed some lubricant? He called it his own modifications

oh dear that’s not good, I was hoping to avoid a long term bodge.

it seems like ‘the’ most common Skoda issue so hoped t would be well catered for.

i may have to get spare door clips and DIY it with proper solder rather than the crap crimp job I’ve done for now.

perhaps those heat gun solder crimp things. Need a new rubber door grommet though as I had to butcher the original to get anywhere near the snapped cabling, live and earth both were snapped and loose in there…not good.

In my oppinion repair set is the best solution for this problem. You need to remove also door card, to get better access to current wire loom and change the whole with repair set. Ok, I understand that this is not OEM, but still better than 10 times repaired broken wires.

Metzger repair set can be ordered here: https://www.autodoc.co.uk/metzger/9337569

I've not had the issue myself (yet) but fully expect this to be a problem in due course on my 2014 Estate.  I've done a good bit of reading on the subject and have always found fairly good feedback on the repair looms available via Ebay etc.

Currently got a couple of repair looms in my watch list and there are some further posts on here which cover the subject.

I've just had to do a loom repair on my rear parking sensors, cut out a bit of chaffed cable and jointed either end, back working fine.

Wouldn't have thought the door loom would be much different (albeit more in depth to get access etc)....
