"Lost" re-map

Featured Replies

Is it possible to "lose" your remap by switching to a CAI then back to the standard airbox?

I had to remove the battery to fit my CAI but when i re fitted the battery everything seemed ok, in fact the car was a little bit more responsive. Now that i have gone back to the standard airbox the car does seem down on power and i am not sure if this is just the effect of returning to the standard airbox or not, it is also very warm today so not sure if that is playing a part.

I have no lights or anything on the dash but after i reconnected the battery the word "safe" flashed up onto my radio the first time i switched it on, this only happened once though and is ok now.

You could in theory lose a remap if its not been saved in the correct part of the engine ecu. However I wouldnt have thought Jabba would do that.

Perhaps it is just because i have gone back to the normal air box. I certainly hope so:O

Will see how it goes over the next few days.

If you usually cane it big time, the ECU learns this and is quite "cane" ready from the off. Its possible removing the battery has reset this, and you need to re-teach it over time to learn your style of driving.

By the way, did you need to disconnect the battery for an airbox swap? I'd have thought that wouldn't be needed, given its a mechanical swap only?

I had to disconnect and remove the battery to be able to fit the CAI as it was very difficult to get the intake pipe in place without doing so. The instructions also said to do this. I did manage to put the original air box back in by just loosening the clamp on the battery and shuffling it to one side slightly - just enough to be able to get the CAI out. I also had to remove the filter from the end of the CAI by jacking the car up and doing it from underneath so all in all it was a pain in the ar5e.

I did the same with my Octavia when fitting/removing the CAI. Given your car's map is almost identical to mine I would think it is just the placebo effect.

I think this is the case. I do miss the extra power with the CAI though, it was noticable, but the noise from the dump ale was too much for my tastes.

had the same prob with mine!! every time VAGcom was used the map would disapear!! hda to get a new ECU in the end!!:(

Mine is ok now thanks. I think it may have been a ombination of the hot weather and removing the CAI that i had on that made the car feel slower, at least in my head if nothing else.
