Modifications and warranty?

Featured Replies

I apologise if this has been done before, but are modifcations such as strut braces, arb's, springs and wheels invalidate warranty on new cars in the same way as performance modifcations do?

Are there any modifcations (either the above or performance) which can be upgraded by the dealer on request without voiding the warranty?

Finally, when a warranty is invalidated, e.g., for a remap, does it then affect the cover to any part of the car (e.g., rear wiper packs in), or just the bits that the remap would affect (engine, transmission etc.)

Thanks all. :)

Thanks. :)

Looks like it's only the bits we fiddle with. So springs / arb / wheels shouldn't be a problem if I read that correctly.

Springs could be an issue is suspension or rattle related claims.

Things you can fit that wont effect your warranty..

1. Approved accessories.

And thats about it, as they are approved and have been tested by Skoda.

Thanks. :)

Do dealers ever authorise modifcations? I seem to recall talk of a 'dealer remap' for instance . . .

Some do (and use Revo/Star maps), but if that dealership goes belly up then you'll have to find another dealership who may not be as mod friendly....

I believe Skoda in Europe have special authorised mods, but I don't know the details.

Does anyone know of such a dealership, please?

After all the happenings regarding Skoda HQ with persons and their cars warranties, do you think anyone will either declare their dealer is mod friendly or admit to having a car thats modded on a public forum if they want to keep their warranty?

Also I would assume declaring your desire to mod your car will mark you up by the Skoda bods who look in, thus again risking your warranty.

However, if you're not bothered about losing your warranty then carry on by all means.

Something worth remembering is that Rob's current car is out of warranty, unless he bought an extended one. So they are merely questions and not 'can I do x, y and z?'

Not sure how many people noticed the 2002 bit is his siggy.

Yep, Moose is correct. Mine's well out of warranty so I have no worries. All hypothetical situations. :)
