Karoq Brake pads and discs

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

New to the forum so still trying to find my way about. I'm looking at replacing my rear pads and discs on my karoq 1.5 SEL. I have an electric parking break if that makes any difference, first car I've owned to have one 😶‍🌫️.

I'm looking for some help on which size / parts are best to use?

On my previous car I bought some pads and discs off euro car parts and ended up with break noise which was horrendous so want to avoid that. Any recommendations for pads and discs and where best to buy from please?

TIA

Welcome.

Others can help hopefully with part advice.

Dingbro Paisley will be better at making sure you leave with the correct part rather than ECP.

You will nedd an appropriate code reader to relax the rear brakes, if not familiar probably better to let your local independent do it for you.

Cheers, I'll give them a ring to see what I can sort out

The Karoq rear brakes all use the same ATE rear brake calipers and all use 272x10mm size rear discs.

However, there's one important point to bear in mind...

There are two different versions of the 272x10mm rear brake discs and they are not interchangeable. The 5Q0615601B version has a width of about 58mm, whereas the 5Q0615601D version has a width of about 48mm.

It appears that 5Q0615601B is for "standard rear axle" and 5Q0615601D is for "4-link rear suspension".

0N1 = Standard rear axle

0N4 = 4-link rear suspension

Thanks Carlston most useful information.

When I had my Karoq serviced by my Indy last year he advised I needed rear pads and front discs soon. As it was something I was capable of doing myself I just asked him what make he uses. He said he always uses Pagid. Never had a comeback on them unlike others he had fitted at customers request.

So that's what I bought. I have a VCDS cable so that's what I used to wind back the electric parking brake. Simple operation and everything has been fine since I did it.

I always thought that Dingbro will only deal with trade customers, the one reason why I've never, as a DIYer, checked them out for parts. As they had a branch almost next to where I used to work (South Gyle Embra), I went in to buy a trolley jack many many years ago as I had an urgent need for one to use at work, paid with my own cash and they muttered about not wanting to deal with non trade customers, which I suspected would be the case, so never went back for personal car parts.

I had that noisy rear pads experience from buying from ECP way back in maybe 2008, bought new Pagid or Textar pads for my 2000 VW Passat 4Motion - I contacted the UK sales arm of TMD Friction and they sent out the correct kit FOC, that sorted that out!

Electric handbrakes, yes, maybe not ideal, but they do have their advantages - after a while.

They are Trade only.

Some must just be a bit lax. But the OP,s brother is a mechanic so that might cover it.

Yup, as it turns out.

Edit:- they seem to able to supply Lesjofors road springs, which could be handy in future.

Do you need this vcds cable to replace the rear brakes on a manual with electric parking brake? TIA

It doesn’t have to be vcds but you will need some sort of diagnostic tool to wind back the electronic parking brake.

I’ve got Carly for another marque. I’ll have to see if that will do it if I upgrade the app.

 Thanks for getting back on this.
