Electric mirrors - strange behaviour

Featured Replies

I bought a 2010 Superb 2 a few weeks ago, and I'm finally finding time to work through the small issues it came with.

The current problem is the mirrors. When I turn on the ignition, the left (driver's) mirror attempts to fold all the way in or out, depending on the switch position. But it never stops at the standard location: it's either fully extended, or fully closed, and I can hear the motor trying to turn it even more.

This would make me think that the position switch/sensor inside the mirror is at fault, BUT ALSO, the Left-off-Right positions on the mirror controls are also misbehaving. If the control is set to Right then it controls the right (passenger) mirror. But if it's set to Left then it controls BOTH mirrors, which makes adjustments less than easy.

Occam's Razor tells me that the control panel in the driver's armrest at fault, but any other ideas would be appreciated. And how would I begin repairing this?

Driver's side mirror adjustment doing both is deliberate/normal.

Idea being that if there are two drivers with rather different seat positions,  the mirrors can be adjusted to suit both forward and rearward positions rapidly.

No idea on the folding problem,  but wire damage at A-pillar bellows always a possibility.

Ok, I found the setting in MFD that lets me control the mirror behaviour. But the driver's side mirror is still broken - the auto-stop mechanism is defunct somehow so the mirror bends all the way around when I unlock the car.

I'm looking for a replacement, but I don't understand the difference between the 6-, 9-, 13- and 15-pin versions for sale by various breakers. Is there a list of features for these mirrors that I can compare with?
