Remove doorhandle cover front passenger side

Featured Replies

Hello all,

The lock on the front passenger side of my Skoda Fabia Mk2 2012 no longer works correctly. I think I have pinpointed the issue to a faulty lock, since I can clearly hear the lock trying to work, but it fails (double clicking when attempting and failing to switch to another state). Note that it sometimes works (no double clicking), but more often than not it double clicks and fails to switch.

Regardless, I want to change the lock. I already have a replacement part. I‘ve watched a few tutorial videos, but all of them seem to have a different screw layout on the door. The videos show needing to screw a TORX out to get the cover (see first image, red highlight) off, to get to the doorhandle‘s mechanism to pull the string out. However, that screw doesnt exist for me, and instead seems to be replaced with a (proprietary?) screw-like mechanism (see second image).

Does anyone have any idea on how to get that thing out? Just pulling doesnt work, I‘ve tried and failed to just pull it out. Any references to a tool implementing that screwing mechanism? Any help is appreciated at this point.

Cheers

After a LOT of googling, I have found the mechanism to be demonstrated in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNFi8J7SGCA

In case the video no longer exists or an apocalypse has took place: You need to pull the plastic chip-like part OUT, you need to get leverage behind the plastic chip and pull it out with a medium amount of force until it clicks open. I did that with a nail held backwards with some pliers. After that, you can pull the cover out.

To get it back in, just put the cover back in and push the plastic chip back in, again until it clicks.

Sadly, I found my locking mechanism to be quite a lot different from what the tutorial videos showed, so I'm back to finding the proper lock. I'm going to take apart the door to figure out what type of lock I have, and maybe make a tutorial video on the entire process after I figured out what I actually need. I'll keep this post updated.

Remember never fully removed the torx bolt 🤣 there's something like 10 turns, I can't remember the exact number, or else you might have to remove the door internals to get the cage back in the correct position.

There should be a T20 I think in the top hole. Unscrew it slowly and they wiggle the small lock cover and it should pop out. You can then grab the handle and pull it towards the back of the car to remove.

Thanks for the reply, but as mentioned my mechanism is different than what the video tutorials demonstrated. I already replied with the solution above, which worked in removing the cover. There is no torx screw in any of the holes in the front doors, however they do exist in the back doors.

Alright least you got to the bottom of it. All the ones I've done have had the torx.

Have you continuity checked the wires (not just looked at them) in both front doors?
