Why do some dealers insist on phoning?

Featured Replies

I see a car on the the website all I want to know is can the service be changed to variable and how much would u take for my car and Thats it i will probably buy it.

If the car offers low ill sell it on motorway the new cars close.

But no he says he needs to run through some things on the the phone im like just tell me  very simple 2 minute questions on email . Then we can speak on the phone.

I not to fussed about not getting it my car is still great. Its just a pretty good offer living  close.

Whats so important he needs to speak on the  phone? Feels like a bit pressure because not all dealers do this.

It might just be me lol

Rather than pressure you, you are a possible sales lead, so the salesperson is trying to get your details, make commission, hit a monthly sales target and keep the dealership sales manager off their back. In contrast some dealerships don't respond to queries in a timely manner and lose potential customers. You won't be face-face so you can simply say no and end the call if the response or deal offered doesn't suit you.

Yes but he has my details and knows what I want. And he responded to me in 10 minutes

I am pretty busy and know what I want I've read all the details its a very simple 2 questions. Obviously if I was gagging for the car I'd be reserving it and been up there.

And its easier asking questions through email and thinking about it.

But obviously the dealer doesn't know that

Whats the difference between speaking through email or phone?

I have bought plenty of cars on the telephone and phoned plenty of dealers looking for my last car

If Skoda Specialist Cars Dundee, John Clark Group then the sales people will not mind if you say, i am rather busy and do not have time to spend on the phone.

Just send the information.   Nice to have it in writing anyway.

They are friends of mine and not usually pushy.

Ur from dundee too? Nice

Its not the Dundee John clark but very close

I'm wondering what could be so important not telling me through email whether the service can be changed to variable. Maybe it was an ex mi7 vehicle.

Ye will try that

Forfar. Was Dundee.

It is not easy selling cars lots of the time and some have to work hard.

The best salespeople that have done it for years can change Dealerships or dealership groups / manufacturers easily and customers that like how they are can be repeat customers.

Even change cars or manufacturer as the salesperson does.

As for Arnold Clark, 'John Clark Select'   and others it is hit or miss.  MotorChoice Perth IME are the dregs once they have a sale.

I bought my 2 year old Superb via emails and would never do business just by phone. A good rule is phone initially then all transactions by email, it has literally  saved me thousands of pounds when should problems arise later you respond back with the justification in print for your claim.

In my experience people have a habit of false claims and  untruths when knowing their is no record of the dealings of a sale, and want to use a phone to avoid leaving an audit trail
