Buzzing sound from under bonnet when engines warm.

Featured Replies

So my TDI Vrs has had power issues this last few months and struggling to turnover and has stalled 3 times while driving.

I've had the DPF checked and cleaned along with the turbo and nothing could be found.

The car is still having the issues so my mechanic cleaned the throttle body and when I got it back it started a buzzing sound when the engine got warm and the car was losing power again.

It was then discovered the return line was leaking diesel so I replaced that, still left with the buzzing sound.

I then changed the low pressure fuel pump and car started perfect and all power issues seemed to be resolved untill the engine got warm where it began again.

I'm at an absolute loss as there are no fault codes showing and below is a video of the sound.

Sounds like the aux fuel pump is dying to me.

What year is it?

2011, that was my fear that it was going.

What about unplugging it with the car running? It might cut out soon after but if the whining stops instantly you know its that.

I'll give that a go, thank you.

Forgot to ask, is that the one thats located in the tank?

No it should be the one that you were videoing under that steel bracket in the enigne bay beside the expansion tank, at least I think so on that year of common rail.

Maybe hold a screwdriver to it and put it on your ear to try and pinpoint the noise but from the video it seemed like a good place to start considering your running issues.

Update:

I replaced the fuel pump under the back seat and a new fuel filter. The car drove fine for 10 minutes then I lost power and was getting the code P0087.

I was leaving it down tonight to get the fuel regulator done in the morning and the car had zero power, the worst it's ever been and I discovered that the fuel return line that had been changed last week was ruptured and the engine bay was flooded in diesel again.

Back to square one.
